Wine and Bread

On the night he was betrayed, our Lord took the wine and the bread
In accordance to the ancient Passover tradition, but rather than
Taking the bread and eating, he said, “This is my body,
Broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same fashion, he took the cup, saying,
“This is my blood, which is poured out
For the forgiveness of many.”
Eleven minds must have
Wondered, feared,
Hoped and
Prayed;
Those
Eleven
Drank
And ate,
Trusting
What they
Did not
Know.
And the
Lord
Did not
Explain,
But he
Finished
The Passover
Ceremony, for
He had not come to
Abolish the law, but to fulfill it.

“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body.’ Then he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. For this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.’” - Matthew 26:26-28

Disclaimer: Though I will follow the Bible closely during this series, certain poems call me to explore possible motives behind the events of the Passion. Such deviations are not biblical and I invite you to decide for yourself whether such motives were plausible.
