Author's Note: Finn and Symphony grew up together. Their mothers were enemies for a while until Finn's settled down and stopped stealing. At an early age, Finn became annoyed by the younger Symphony and when Symphony was teased by a young Finn the feeling became mutual. They even had issues with one another all through out high school, until an event that shook him up changed their freindship, or lack thereof. Anyhow, in the future as you have read (hopefully, if not, go read it now) in "It can't be helped" they actually end up together. But theirs of a strange relationship that many times seems like it still holds true to those playground rules. Boy pulls your pigtails? Obviously he likes you! Enjoy.
Hop hop hop!
“Oh bother!”
“HEY, watch it! You about killed the dark side with one step, missy!”
“Ow, sorry Felix. Sorry Phil.”
She hops across a creaking wooden floor and steps between the cord of a vacuum cleaner that twists along the path she takes. Her heel catches a curve of the cord and Symphony is doing a strange dance to keep herself from falling.
Scoot scoot hop!
“¡Hey¡Tenga cuidado, girlie¡Usted could've disparado!”
“¡Mi malo¡Mi malo, Lucy!”
“¡Es aceptable, muchacha, apenas tenga cuidado la vez próxima!”
“Sí lucy...”
All out of breath, Symphony scurries into a kitchen only to nearly catch a face full of water from a surprised hydrokinetic. She ducks, glides across the smooth tile and yelps.
Woosh!
“Rafe!”
“Symphony! You scared’ the shite out o’ me! Wha’ is tha’ rush?!”
No time! She throws her arms into the air in an exasperated show of her inability to explain. Now she is plowing through the door that leads into the large garage. There are rows and rows of cars and she takes a right at the second row to take a shortcut past the collection of muscle cars. One is already missing!
Scuttle scamper!
“Oh BOTHER!”
But the garage door is not yet closed, it’s decent is slow! So sluggish that Symphony pulls an Indiana Jones in her attempt to make it outside before that garage door closes. These are maneuvers one can only learn in hardcore hero training.
“WAIT!”
The missing muscle car inches backwards out of the driveway but comes to a screeching halt the moment that word is yelled. The word has caused the inhabitants of the household to gather at a window that looks out at the driveway. The yell is that loud.
“Wait! Oh, goodness! Just... ooh lord, wait!”
She is back to hopping as the pavement is hot to her bare feet and by the time she makes it to the car, the window is rolled down and a man is leaning out the window.
Hop hop hop!
“Sunglasses on,” says Phil. Rafe and Felix slide their shades up the bridges of their noses. There is a moment to breath and they wait for the great flash of light that will flood the driveway.
“I thought you forgot,” whispers Symphony just as her lips press into the man’s. His flesh becomes bright with one quick flair of emotion, he is absorbing daylight and too much means he has to expel what he soaks up. It’s that flash that the others shade their eyes for.
“I was just seeing if you’d really run after me for it,” whispers the man once she pulls back from the kiss. He is grinning.
She is scowling.
“Finn, you jerk!”
“See you later, babe,” laughs he and Finn returns to backing out of the driveway, enduring the anger that radiates from his girlfriend. It’s only when he is out of sight that Symphony allows herself to enjoy a stupid smile of pure bliss.
