Could I sing a song for you?

Could I whisper the words
Into your delicate ear?
Could I murmur the melody
Against your warm cheek?

Could I sing of things I’ve never said to anyone else
In my entire life?

Even if it’s out of tune?
Even if my voice is too weak
To be heard?

Can the song be short?
Or can it be drawn out
Into a moment we will never forget?

Could I sing a song for you?

Could the music sweep over
Your delicate features?
Could it rest on your skin
And make your breath short?

Could I sing of things that I have held so closely
In my heart?

Even if the lyrics are poor?
Even if my hands shake
Beyond my self control?

Can the song have no dynamics?
Or be filled with such emotion
That I forget what the melody sounds like?

Could I sing a song for you?

Could the words fill your head
And stream forever in your mind?
Could the notes dance before your eyes
And show you visions never imagined?

Could I sing of things that I can see so clearly
In your alluring eyes?

Even if I forget all the words?
Even if I can’t sing in front of others
And I have to close my eyes?

Can I shyly hold your hand?
Or can I brush your lips
With the words on my own?

Could I sing a song for you?
And only you?

And then I will feel something
That I have never felt before…
