Well to start off, hello everyone. I’m b.r.y.a.r, named for the narrator of this fic. It is slightly based off Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, but only at the very beginning. There is a plot that I’ve worked out, an original plot that has nothing to do with the anime this is slightly based off of. So don’t yell at me. My best friend has graciously allowed the use of the characters Davis, Bryar and Meghan. However, I take responsibility for their personalities in this story. This is an alternate past for the character Rebecca Davis from my Inuyasha fan fiction over on Kaze ni Naitari. So, let’s finally begin shall we?
One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
It’s finally time for high school. A time in ones life where the fun and games end, and life becomes a hell of a lot more serious. The childish dreams that once fluttered through my head have finally dissipated, and my life is finally taking that desired serious route. Acting like an adult is required for high school, there is no longer time to do things like a child.
Childish dreams for a world full of magic and wonder are slowly crushed, and those thoughts become silly and illogical. The creatures that haunted your nightmares and made you flick on a night-light are no more. After all, such beings could not exist in reality. I think every kid knows this deep down, but a child like innocence blocks the rational thoughts from being portrayed. But this isn’t a psychology report; this is my telling of that fateful time in everyone’s life where what was once logical is no more.
Oh, I’m Bryar Miller by the way. Just your average student attending Portland Academy, a common high school in the town I live it, Portland (as you might have guessed…). Though in retrospect, going to the private school across the river probably would have suited me better. But I decided on the typical high school life. Besides, the uniforms here are better than at that private school. At least red and black go together…
August heat was still beaming down on the small river side town. You’d think it was the middle of July. And with my wonderful luck, there wasn’t a bus stop by my home, meaning I had to walk to the school. Wonderful.
And so, the sweep of normal high school life had carried me away, but I was fine with that. I blended into the mass of students heading up to Portland Academy. It was a normal typical day. Once again, in retrospect, it seems incredibly boring compared to the rest of that year. But then again, my life has obtained a psychotic wake up call. My normal school life was pretty much flushed down the tubes the moment classes began. In fact, the moment home room began is more likely when class began that last day of August. The abstract childish dreams that I once deemed as illogical where turning out to be truer than I ever could of imagined. After all, with a ghost, a spy, and a demon turning up you’d think life would get a little hectic.
Of course, the one person who has had the most profound effect on my high school life is the girl who lives right next door(though I never noticed her before…), has the exact same schedule I do, and sits behind me in every class.
Talk about coincidence.
That red head is the one primarily responsible for all the events that have happened so far. The way she stared at me that August day with her cold gray eyes had to have changed my life forever. There was no escaping once you tried to make contact with her. But oddly, I don’t regret it too much.
Yes, the girl whom changed the world, a short haired red head named Rebecca Davis.
