Conclusive Thoughts

The story has ended, but the mystery at Nathan Bridge University remains. What causes the day to repeat itself for a particular person? Why? Have they done something wrong?

In the beginning we find that Larson goes through what is clearly a normal day. Then he finds that this day repeats. Each time it repeats however, things get slightly more disturbing. An appearance of the yellow creature, Jonathan goes insane, the school is encircled by a car pileup that is realistically impossible, Riane is found dead and her body goes missing, and eventually the university becomes some otherworldly limbo.

Larson also finds that Nathan Bridge, the school founder suffered a similar fate. Then he was found dead. On the ninth day, Larson finds him, aged as if he would’ve if he had lived up until the present day. He is killed by the giant soon after.

First of all, if you examine the day, Larson has not done anything… wrong, per say. You could say that he neglected to live the day to the fullest. It is possible getting drunk had something to do with it. Maybe he didn’t treat Riane as well as he should have.

However, nothing based on what has been seen indicates that anything had been done wrong. Nathan Bridge didn’t feel he did something wrong either, and Riane clearly hadn’t. On what basis could this curse be hitting people? Perhaps there is no set standard.

Larson also found that staying awake allows him to progress onward to the next day. Unfortunately he only sees this to be true so far until the second day. What would happen if he continued on into Wednesday without sleep? Thursday? Friday? Would it break the curse? Either way, fatigue would overcome him eventually and he would be back in Monday again. Unfortunate as it is, this would be a difficult thing to determine.

Everyday getting worse is almost symbolic, isn’t it? He is breaking down from his day repeating, the world is breaking down as well.

The otherworld, we only see for one day. What we can deduce from it however, is it apparently is some alternate dimension to the real world. It has the same properties of the real world, but it is infested with a bunch of decaying creatures.

According to Nathan, the creatures were once human, and most of them have been here before he has. Could it be that some of these people have been stuck in this world since hundreds of years ago unable to die? This may explain their appearance and behaviors. Nathan was apparently starved for human contact from the way he touched Larson. Almost thirty long years without seeing or touching another human being? How long have the others been trapped in this world? No wonder they are trying to kill themselves or Larson.

Strangely, they did not appear for a while. Could Larson shifting into this world have caused the creatures to awaken or “activate”?

The giant beast that killed Nathan and Larson – what is it? Is its purpose to kill people to finalize their being in the otherworld? What does it mean that Nathan died twice?

Is the otherworld an illusion? Then why are others falling into it as well?

Perhaps someday we will discover its mysteries. Perhaps we won’t. We do know now what happened on the tenth day. It was the end of the insanity… for one person at least.
