Puzzles

We are all like puzzles,
We are the sum of our parts.
We are enigmas to be placed together.
We are all humans with no reason to depart

But my puzzle seems harsher.
The edges sharp and narrow
The picture it makes up is deathly skeletal.
And its joins are the fiery marrow.

But to care is to sacrifice the sum
And change the parts of the equation
I empty the dark parts of my soul
In order to resist the darker temptation.

Out goes my manipulation.
And the replicable way that I see
Now I have to complete my puzzle
Missing the dangerous parts of me.

This self-sacrifice is worth it.
I care about companions and friends.
To endanger them is to to be who I was.
I will protect them until the end.

However I have lost some parts.
And I will not take them back
I remain incomplete and hollow
Soon more sinful parts I will hack

The demon inside of me gains no more power
As I give more pieces of myself away
And this self-imposed silent oath I take
Will not leave me room to say:

“You are blind”

“I’m hurt”

“You’re amazing”

“I wish it could go differently”

“You’re causing me pain”

“I hate you”

“You mean the world to me”

“I love you”

So I stitch up the spaces in my puzzle
With my silence and a sacred smile
The silver tears from the broken parts
Will weigh on my soul for a while

I’m killing myself to save only you
I’m sacrificing my words for you to stay
I’m destroying the demon inside because I care too much
And I wouldn’t have this any other way.
