Wisdom is the cruelest

It makes me see why I can’t,

But why you can.

I remain compassionate.

But this is just as hurtful to me

As your claimed injury is to you.

The looks I get as you talk more

Cause me to hide in hot shame

Though I swear to you, I’ve done nothing wrong.

I’ve said I’m sorry, I’ve asked what to do

But you don’t believe me.

I want to admit

That it was you that caused this

But Wisdom holds my tongue,

And Empathy holds my heart

So speak of me with acid

I’ll do naught but bite my tongue

And though the taste of copper numbs my throat,

I still swear to you, you’ve won.
