Chapter 1

I just ran into a few someone’s today.
Someone’s that I never really knew.
And I used to think how I had them all figured out.

--

“Oh my god! Cassie, you will never believe this.”

I glanced up from my text book and stared blankly at one of my best friends Jennifer Grayson. She ran up towards me and tugged me on the arm. I nodded my head again and stared back down to my text book. “Really Jen, I have to get this biology homework done and I can’t waste my time with silly news.”

“Oh gods Cass, you’re such a perfectionist, the bands here!” Jen squealed and I rolled my eyes at her. I, Cassandra Lynn Myers, am not fazed by anything, nothing scares me and nothing hurts me. Not even break-ups from guys. Mostly all the guys that I have gone out with, which is a whooping two, were losers and they broke up with me because I was too cold. Whatever, it’s not like I really cared about them anyways, I only said yes because they seemed to like me and I didn’t feel like saying no on that peculiar day. Whatever. It’s not like it’s my problem anymore because they broke up with me. “Cassie, you are seriously not going to not come and see them are you?”

That’s the thing about Jennifer; she’s so… well she’s so not smart. I didn’t even understand a word that she had just said. Hmph, there was one thing that I couldn’t stand about my high-school right now and that was Three Lights coming to my school. They were three of them and they were all boys. Oh god, all the girls swoon over them because they are just so AMAZING! Except me of course, like I said before, I am not fazed by anything and that’s a fact. Not even a lighting-bolt would faze me! Okay, maybe that would because that is pretty scary. The lead singers and one of the guitarists name is Jet, the other guitarists is named Army, and the last one, the drummer is Rocket. Wow, they’re mother must have been really drunk or high when she named them. Army Rocket Jet. Haha, I could have a lot of fun with that one. What strange names though, but whatever floats their boat. “I actually have no interest in the Three Lights, it’s so cheesy.”

She actually gasped. “You cannot say that Cassie! Hey, Rachel’s going, why don’t you come with us? We might get lucky enough to actually show them around school!” She squealed once more.

“That’s alright Jen; I’ll be there in a little while.” Anything to get her off my back. I swear, she’s like a magnet and if you don’t do something soon, she’ll latch onto you forever.

“Alright, but I expect to see you there.”

“Fine, whatever… catch yah later.” I said and looked down at my text book once more. Like I was really going to come?

--

Jennifer strolled out of the classroom, almost colliding with one of her best friends Rachel McNeal. Jennifer sighed and crossed her arms across her chest. “She’s doing it again.” She said with a deep sigh in the tone of her voice. Rachel nodded slowly.

I know, I know, but what are we supposed to do? I mean she’s been weird ever since her father, you know?” Rachel said and Jennifer nodded.

I know what you mean, she has been really weird since her father passed… I don’t know what to do for her anymore, she just keeps pushing us and the rest of humanity away, what are we supposed to do?”

I dunno.” Rachel admitted and glanced sideways into the classroom where Cassandra was jotting down a couple of quick notes. “How long has she been in there?”

Ugh, like since the end of school.”

Rachel sighed. “That’s horrible and kind of creepy. Only Cassie stays after school and does her homework while all of us are falling to the feet of the Three Lights.” She shrugged and turned herself towards the door. “Let me go talk to her.

--

Rachel McNeal stormed into the doorway of the classroom I had been sitting in for only a couple of minutes since Jennifer had left, with her hands on her hips. She stopped right in front of me. “God Cassandra, Jen told me that you have been in here since the end of school, do you ever take a break?”

“No not really, I actually prefer to be in here there swooning over some stupid band that I could care less about.”

“Cassie! Don’t say that, they’re actually a good band.”

“Whatever, it’s cheesy.”

Cassandra…!”

“Ugh stop it now Rachel, I know that you’re on of my best friends and all, but I just really don’t want to go see them, alright.” I said and snapped my text book closed, I stood up from my seat and turned towards my best friend. “Anyways I know that you’re going to tell me all about it later tonight so call me and have fun! I’m sure that you and Jen will be the ones to show them around school or whatever you wanted to do. Also my maman needs me to go home and watch Ella, so call me?” I knew that I had lied about Ella and all, but it was the only thing I could do to get out of seeing that stupid band, actually Rachel believed me.

Rachel shrugged and then sniffled. “Fine, but you owe me.”

--

Rachel lugged herself back towards the massive crowd and attached herself to the arm of April Lee. “April Lee… you don’t understand! She’s been this way ever since her father passed and I’m running out of ideas of how to make her come to her senses and live life.” Rachel explained and April Lee nodded.

You want me to talk to her? Usually I can get some kind of thoughts other then school through her thick-headed skull.” April Lee said lightly and reached for her phone in her pocket before flipping it open and pressing down the number two until it started to ring. “Hello, this is April Lee and I was looking for Cassandra, Ms. Myers.” A pause and then April Lee frowned deeply. “Alright, well can you tell her just to call me back later? Thank you so much! Bye bye now.” She hung up and shrugged.

She’s not there is she?” Rachel questioned and April Lee nodded.

--

Let me admit that I had not always been a cold-hearted bitch that everybody thought I was.

Actually during my younger years – ahhh the younger years – I had been really open to everything. I had been young and adventurous and basically everybody loved me. That was until my father died of a heart-attack when I was sixteen years old. After the shock of him dying washed over, I got use to things in life not being so surprising and nothing interested me enough to make me do anything. Whatever, it only bothered my friends and soon they started leaving me to be with other more inviting and interesting friends. Not that I cared of anything like that. The only people who stuck by me were Rachel, Jennifer, April Lee Arlington, and Jolene Campbell. We were basically the fabulous five and nothing could tear us apart. Now, I stood in the back of a massive crowd and stared absently at the three boys of Three Lights, I had to admit that they were cute, but not cute enough to make me do anything. I turned my back and floated away and out of the building.

--

Jet Thomson stared at the girl who hung in the back. Her golden blonde hair fell absently over her shoulder as she stared at the three of them. Her piercing blue eyes were glazed over as if she was thinking of something. He looked at his bothers then at the massive crowd of girls in front of him. When he went to look for the girl who had been lingering and lurking around the crowd, she was gone…

--

Ella was screaming when I got back from school. I looked down at my fifteen year old sister and rolled my eyes. “What the hell are you doing?” I questioned bitterly and she glared at me before her best friend Brittany Bonds appeared out of the shadows. She was laughing hysterically and wiping at her watery eyes.

Brittany smiled. “Oh hey Cass… I didn’t see you there. I just scared the crap out of Ella; you should have seen her-!”

“I did, I saw her also.” I added dryly, but Brittany didn’t seem to notice my bitterness.

“She totally freaked out on me, but whatever, it was just good fun. Oh your mom told me to tell you that April Lee called and that she wants you to call her back… hmm I don’t think there’s anything else that I have to tell you, I might think of something though!” I had always like Brittany, even if she was two years younger then me and Ella’s best friend. I looked over at Ella who rolled her eyes.

“What are you doing home?” Ella questioned curiously.

“I was going to ask you the same thing, I mean aren’t you supposed to be swooning over the Three Lights?” I shot back at her and she rolled her eyes once more. Ella has a habit of doing that without really noticing.

“I don’t know Brittany didn’t want to go.”

“Whatever.” I snapped and Ella scrunched her nose up at me.

“Can you go now Cassie? My friends over and I don’t want you to scare her away.”

“Ella, don’t be mean to Cassandra,” Brittany said, entering the conversation. “You know that she’s the one who drives you to school and she could withdraw from her position if she wanted…” Brittany trailed off and I stared at her, waiting for her to say more. When she didn’t, I moved towards the stairs and flashed a quick slight smile to them.

“Thanks Brit, ugh Ella, if you need anything just call me.”

“Whatever.” Ella scoffed and grabbed Brittany’s hand before running off down-stairs.

--

Brittany Bonds would never understand why Ella Myers hated her older sister Cassandra Myers so much. She actually loved Cassandra as a sister since she was an only child. She looked up to Cassandra and always told Ella that she was lucky to have Cassandra as a sister. Ella would always roll her eyes and tell her that a brother would have been better then having Cassandra as a sister, she was like a rock that never moved. She never taught Ella anything about being a teenager and had always pushed her away; Ella had mentioned that that was not what an older sister was supposed to do. She was suppose to teach Ella everything and they could talk about anything. Brittany would always roll her eyes and just say that she was lucky she had a sibling at all.

--

“Cassie, where are you?” April Lee’s voice questioned as I heard muffled cries in the background. I bet that it was the massive crowd that was surrounding the Three Lights. I am so glad that I did not go and did not have to be stuck in that huge crowd of screaming girls. “Three Lights are here! Where are you…?”

“Well not there for one…”

“I knew that Cassie, but aren’t you supposed to be here? I mean Jen told me that you were suppose to be here and Jolene was looking for you. Rachel said that you weren’t coming, but I didn’t want to believe her!”

I shrugged as if she could see me when I was halfway across town. “I don’t know, I didn’t really feel like coming, it’s complicated April Lee.”

“Get your butt down here Cassandra Lynn Myers! Goodness, why aren’t you down here? Don’t you love this band?”

“Actually I don’t.”

“What?! You don’t love this band? But they’re amazing and they’re super hot! How can you not love them?”

I fidgeted with the blanket that covered my bed. “I don’t love them because they’re not my style and they’re probably all jerks. Anyways I’ll see them tomorrow April Lee, it’s not like I’m not going to see them tomorrow. They’re still in our school system aren’t they?”

“Ugh Cassie…”

I frowned. “Gotta go April Lee, Ella’s calling for me.” I lied through my clenched teeth as I closed the phone and laid back down my bed, closing my eyes and wishing that tomorrow I didn’t have to go back to school and get all the misery from my best friends.

--

April Lee hung up her phone and turned to look at the people surrounding her. She found herself soon face to face with Jet Thomson, the lead singer of Three Lights. “Hey.” He said and she looked at him confused, why was he talking to her out of all people?

Hey.” She replied lamely.

You know, there was this blonde girl in the back this afternoon and I was just wondering if you knew her. She doesn’t seem to be here anymore.” Jet said and frowned slightly. April Lee couldn’t help but melt at his hotness.

Uh, what did she look like?”

She was blonde and had blue eyes and was carrying a text book.”

I’m not sure; a lot of girls here are blonde and blue eyed.”

She was wearing like a MIT sweat-shirt… she’s going there?”

April Lee’s eyes bugged out. He couldn’t possibly be talking about Cassandra could he? She pondered this for a couple of moments. “No, uh wow, yeah I do know her; she’s one of my best friends.” April Lee added quickly and Jet smiled brightly at her.

What’s her name?”

Cassandra Myers.” Jet nodded a ‘thank you’ to her before walking away, knowing that for sure that that girl was starring at his back. He was sure that he would always remember Cassandra Myers name and he was sure that he wanted to meet her. Even if she really didn’t want to meet him.

--

“Hi.”

I looked up from my homework and arched an eye-brow at one of the Thomson brothers or more known as one of the Three Lights brothers. I rolled my eyes to show him that I had no interest in talking to him, but obviously he didn’t notice as he suddenly sat down next to me. He had long-ish curly hair that was styled and was perfect. He was wearing low-rise jeans with converse sneakers and a worn band t-shirt. I looked him up and down and then rolled my eyes once more. I did not need this right now. He had picked the worst time to actually talk to me. “What are you doing?”

“Sitting next to you, isn’t it obvious?”

“Yes, but I mean why are you sitting next to me?”

“Because I haven’t seen you before and I want to get to know the people at this school?” He offered and I shook my head before grabbing my pencil and writing down a couple of notes on a lined sheet of paper. “So are you going to tell me your name?”

I shrugged. “How important is it to you for me to tell you my name?”

“Uh, important?”

“Then no, I won’t tell you.”

He laughed as I stood up from my chair, pushing it behind me and walking up to the teacher in the front of the room. I gave her the paper and then returned to my sheet, wishing that he would be gone by then. He wasn’t, he was starring up at me and smiling just as I had left him. “So are you going to tell me now?”

“No, not really.”

“Well then when are you going to tell me?”

“How about never?” I said dryly and grabbed my books from the other side of the table that he wasn’t on. “Why do you insist on bugging me? Is this a hobby or something, you bother girls that actually aren’t into you or something? Get a life Thomson.”

“Ooh, so you know my last name and I can’t even know yours?” He questioned and I nodded quickly.

“I only know your name because really, I don’t know your first name or anything else about you. I could probably call all of your brothers the same thing and they would just think that I didn’t feel like re-calling their first names.” He looked confused and I knew what had come out of my mouth hadn’t made any sense. “Fine, what’s your name then?” I asked sarcastically and he actually smiled.

“I’m Jet Thomson, nice to meet you…”

“Get a life.” I muttered and walked towards the door, leaving Jet in the dust.

--

Jet Thomson would not be taken as a fool from a girl who didn’t like him.

He was so sure that she was just going to open up to him like all the other girls had, but apparently she was not like all the other girls. She was distant and cold, but he liked it. He was so used to having girls fall at his feet and line up to be with him, this girl seemed like a challenge and he was so ready for it.
