We gasped for breath, inhaled each other
Shocked, we turned away and stared into
The face of what we couldn't hear
Or smell or taste or touch but love
Is more than what they say in books
And movies couldn't hold a candle
To the story that I'm telling
With the neon and the lightning
Love is something waited for
Often gone before it's realized
Often sitting on the treetops
Holding God within our hands and
Falling with a gorgeous rushing
Grounded to a golden heaven
Love is sunset after watching
Sun and moon destroy their meaning
Playing darts between the planets
Grayed-out skin encase a father
Staring at the interplay of
Light and dark and thinking hard that
Maybe we all have a bit of each
Inside our mortal cages,
Then, a kiss dissolving feeling,
Realizing I don't care.
