Bits and Pieces

It’s just the little things;

The cappuccinos

The random phone calls

Sweet silences broken

By sudden bursts of laughter

Flashes of light

That leave

In their wake a lingering

Warmth

Like the brush

Of fingertips against

The back of the hand.

It’s the way

My chin rests

On your shoulder

When we hug

The thoughtless movement

To stand on tiptoe

Just to peck

Your cheek.

It’s finishing

Each other’s sentences

Like quoting lines

From a favorite film;

Knowing you’re calling

Before I answer the phone.

It’s the subtle reminders;

The fragrance of your cologne

Your hand bumping

Against mine

In a tub of popcorn

The rock

You gave me from

Walden Pond.

It’s everything times two;

Two straws

In a giant coke cup

Two spoons

In a brownie sundae

Two footprints

Walking along the path.
