Don Mantia is a great man. He’s a loving husband, a devoted father and a great friend. But, he’s also a partner in the biggest talent agency in LA. This story is about an agent who is one of a kind and a little outspoken.

Chapter 1: The Beginning

Don Mantia is twenty five years old and is looking for a job. He’s been married for five years to a beautiful woman named Samantha and has a four year old son named Matthew.

Don lives in a normal two story, three bedroom house with a two car garage and an attic. Don is outside with his son Matthew. Don has one a white Yankee shirt with jeans and black Nike sneakers. Matt has on a Plain grey shirt with jeans and black Nike sneakers. Samantha is making lunch in the kitchen. She has her long brunette hair in a pony tail. She is wearing a blue Detroit Tiger shirt with jeans and white ankle socks on.

Outside Don is tossing a foam football with Matt. While Matt is running he trips and scraps his knee. Matt starts to cry.

“You okay Matt?” Don asked concerned.

“No.” Matt cried.

Don picks up Matt and brings him inside. He sits Matt down on the counter and tends to Matt’s knee.

“What happened?” Samantha asked.

“He fell and scrapped his knee.” Don then explained.

Don takes out the rubbing alcohol and band aids. Matt flinches when Don applies the rubbing alcohol to his knee. Don then puts a band aid on it. Samantha kisses Matt on top of his head. They hear the doorbell ring.

“I’ll get it.” Don said as he went to go answer the door.

He looks out his window and sees a man who looks like a surfer with short blonde hair wearing a Dodger shirt with jeans and black Converse sneakers.

“Donny.” Brian Golden said as Don opened the door.

“What is this time?” Don asked.

“Are you still looking for a job?” Brian then asked.

“Yeah.” Don then replied.

“You know my Dad will give a job at his agency.” Brian then stated.

“Brian, I told you my answer ten thousand times already.” Don then sighed.

“Donny, you’re looking for a job and I have a job offer for.” Brian then told him.

“I’ll think about it.” Don then replied.

“What, you’re not going to invite an old friend in your house?” Brian then questioned.

“Would you like to come in?” Don then asked.

“Yes, I would. Thanks for inviting me in.” Brian said as he walked in.

They walk into the living room and sit on the couch.

“Just describe this job offer your Dad has for me?” Don then requested.

“You have a Master’s Degree in Business Management, which is a big plus in my Dad’s work. The job is a small time agent, representing actors that are just starting out. Nothing big.” Brian explained.

“I guess I could do that.” Don replied.

“You guess?” Brian then questioned.

“Fine, I’ll take it.” Don said.

Brian and Don shake hands.

“You and your family should come over for dinner to celebrate.” Brian then suggested.

“I don’t want to impose.” Don then told him.

“Nonsense. I insist.” Brian then commented.

“What time?” Don then questioned.

“Let’s say around eight tonight?” Brian then asked.

“We’ll see you at eight then.” Don then replied.

Don and Brian get off the couch. Don walks Brian to the door. When Brian leaves Don closes the door behind him. When he walks back into the kitchen he feels the breeze from the windows opened.

“Who was that?” Samantha asked.

“That was The Golden Boy.” Don replied sarcastically.

“What did Brian want now?” Samantha then asked.

“He offered me a job with his father’s agency again.” Don then replied.

“Did you accept it?” Samantha then asked.

“Yeah, I need a job.” Don then answered.

“You, a talent agent?” Samantha laughed.

“What’s so funny about that?” Don questioned.

“You have no people skills. You aren’t patient and God forbid someone disagrees with you.” Samantha explained.

“I have excellent people skills, I am very patient and I don’t care if people disagree with me.” Don then told her.

“If someone that isn’t me disagrees with you, you will lose your temper and curse at that person.” Samantha then smirked.

“I don’t argue with everyone.” Don then stated.

“Please. Don, you yelled at an old lady last week because she had more then ten items in the express lane at the grocery store.” Samantha then told him.

“Sam, there’s a sign that says ten items or less. It isn’t my fault that old fossil couldn’t see it because she didn’t have her fucking glasses on.” Don then explained.

“Stop cursing in front of Matt.” Samantha told him as she slapped him in the arm.

“All right. Just stop hitting me any time I curse in front of him.” Don then replied.

“It’s the only way to get my point across to you.” Samantha then told him.

“Brian invited all of us to dinner tonight at his house.” Don then blurted out.

“What did Brian do?” Samantha then asked.

“He invited us over his house for dinner tonight.” Don then repeated.

“He did?” Samantha then questioned.

Don nods his head in agreement.

“What time?” Samantha then sighed.

“Eight.” Don then replied.

“Okay but, you have to give Matt a bath, make sure he wears decent clothes and doesn’t get them dirty.” Samantha then explained.

“I can do that.” Don smirked.

“I also want you to shave, shower and wear something decent. And make sure you don’t get it dirty.” Samantha then told him.

“Yes, Dear.” Don then answered.

Samantha is running around like crazy to make sure everything is done.

“Did you give Matt a bath?” Samantha asked.

“Yes.” Don told her.

“Is Matt wearing something decent?” Samantha then asked.

“Yes.” Don then replied.

“Did he get it dirty?” Samantha then questioned.

“No.” Don then sighed.

“I see that you shaved.” Samantha told him.

Samantha then smells him.

“And you showered.” Samantha then commented.

“And I’m wearing something decent and it isn’t dirty.” Don then said.

Samantha looks at Don.

“You can’t wear that to dinner.” Samantha then told him.

“I am wearing a plain white shirt with jeans.” Don then explained.

“Sweetie, I’m wearing a dress. I rarely wear dresses.” Samantha commented.

“I’ll put on that white Polo shirt you gave me for Christmas.” Don then smiled.

“That’s all I ask.” Samantha smiled back.

Matt comes out of his room wearing a plain black shirt with jeans on.

“You look so handsome.” Samantha said to him.

“Thanks Mommy.” Matt smiled.

Samantha picks up Matt and brings him to her car. She drives a grey 1996 Nissan Ultima. She puts him in his car seat. She sits in the passenger side and waits for Don. Don comes out two minutes later and they drive to Brian’s house. Don looks at Samantha and sees she has a worried look on her face.

“What’s wrong?” Don asked her.

“Nothing.” Samantha smiled.

“You looked worried.” Don then told her.

“I’m not worried. I’m nervous.” Samantha replied.

“Nervous about what?” Don then asked.

“Tonight.” Samantha answered.

“Sam, I have the job in the bag. There’s nothing to worry about.” Don smiled.

“Don, what if something happens tonight?” Samantha then asked.

“Trust me Baby nothing is going to happen tonight to make me lose this job before I even start it.” Don then reassured her.

Samantha smiles at Don and he smiles right back at her. They arrive at Brian’s house in Beverly Hills. Brian lives in a huge house, seven bedrooms, three bathrooms, a dining room and a den. Don and Samantha get out of the car. Samantha opens the back door and gets Matt out of his car seat. Don closes the car door after Samantha takes out Matt.

“I wish my Dad was rich.” Don said to Samantha sarcastically.

“Money isn’t everything.” Samantha stated.

“You’re right, family is everything but, money comes in a close second.” Don then smirked.

They walk up to the door and ring the doorbell. Brian’s butler answers it.

“Mr. Golden is waiting for you in the dining room.” The butler told them.

“Thanks.” Don said.

The butler walks Don, Samantha and Matt to the dining room. When they walk in they’re shocked to see who else is in the dining room.

“Donald, how are you?” Zack Golden said to him.

“I’m fine Mr. Golden. How are you?” Don then replied.

“I can’t complain.” Mr. Golden laughed.

“I thought that we were going to have dinner with Brian?” Samantha asked.

“When he told me that Don accepted the job I didn’t believe him so, I had to come here and see it for myself.” Mr. Golden explained.

“I tried to convince him that I wasn’t lying but, he didn’t believe me.” Brian then explained.

Don and Samantha sit down. Mr. Golden has a booster seat for Matt. The cook brings out dinner and sets it on the table.

“This looks delicious.” Samantha said.

“It should, my chef is the best in the world.” Mr. Golden told them.

“So, Mr. Golden can we talk about my job?” Don then asked.

“Let’s eat first, and then we’ll talk business.” Mr. Golden suggested.

Don agrees and they eat dinner. After dinner Don, Samantha, Matt, Mr. Golden and Brian go into the living room. Mr. Golden hands Don a contract.

“This is a very generous offer.” Don said.

Samantha looks at the contract.

“Am I reading these figures correctly?” Samantha asked Mr. Golden.

“I consider Donald part of my family and I take care of my family.” Mr. Golden then explained.

“Do you have a pen?” Don then asked.

Mr. Golden hands him a pen and Don signs the contract. He signs a five year contract worth five million dollars.

Matt falls asleep while Samantha is holding him.

“Mr. Golden I would hate to be rude but, me and Don have to leave.” Samantha said to Mr. Golden.

“I understand family comes first.” Mr. Golden then said.

“Thank you Mr. Golden.” Don said.

“No, thank you. I know that you will be a vital part of my agency.” Mr. Golden told him.

Mr. Golden shakes hands with Don. Him, Samantha and Matt go home. In the car Samantha looks at Don and they hold hands.

“Things are looking up.” Samantha smiled.

“They sure are.” Don smiled back.

When they get home Don takes Matt out of his car seat. Samantha is already in the house. Don carries Matt into their house. Samantha is in her and Don’s bedroom getting ready for bed. Don walks in after he puts Matt in bed.

“You’re the best looking women I have ever met.” Don smiled.

“Not tonight Don.” Samantha then said.

Samantha gets into bed wearing a bright red night gown that hugs her in all the right places. Don puts on a plain shirt and sweat pants and gets in bed. Samantha cuddles with Don and smiles.

“Good night.” Samantha smiled.

“Good night.” Don smiled back.

On Monday morning Don is wearing black suit pants, leather dress shoes, a black suit jacket, a white dress shirt and a black tie.

“I hate wearing suits. I look like a fucking penguin.” Don sneered as he looked at himself in the mirror.

“You look handsome.” Samantha told him.

“I’m nervous.” Don then said.

“Don’t be nervous. Everything will be fine.” Samantha reassured him.

“Thanks Sam.” Don smiled.

Samantha kisses Don on the lips. She follows Don downstairs.

“Have a good day.” Samantha said to him as he was leaving.

“I’ll try.” Don replied as he closed the front door.

Don gets into his cherry red 1986 Nissan 300 Z and drives to Golden Talent Agency. He parks in the parking garage and is stopped by security.

“Do you work here Sir?” The security guard asked him.

“My name is Donald Mantia Jr. and this is my first day working here.” Don then explained.

The guard checks his list.

“I’m sorry Mr. Mantia.” The guard apologized.

“You were just doing your job.” Don then told him.

“Mr. Golden told me that when you get here to send you to his office.” The guard then told him.

“I have only been here for two minutes and the boss already wants to see me?” Don then asked.

“That’s correct. His office is on the tenth floor.” The guard replied.

“Thanks.” Don said.

Don heads to the elevator and goes to the tenth floor. He feels his heart drop into his stomach.

“I’m either really nervous or this elevator has some pick up.” Don thought to himself.

When he gets to the tenth floor he is amazed. He sees all these offices and celebrities. He looks out one of the windows and sees how high he is.

“Great, this view makes me even more nervous.” Don said to himself.

Don finds Mr. Golden’s office and walks in. Mr. Golden’s office is huge. His office has a flat screen TV, a great view and tons of pictures of Mr. Golden with his top clients.

“Donald, have a seat.” Mr. Golden told him as he walked in.

Don sits in the chair in front of Mr. Golden’s desk.

“You wanted to see Mr. Golden?” Don then asked.

“How are you feeling?” Mr. Golden then asked.

“I’m good. Not nervous at all.” Don then said.

“I understand if you’re nervous.” Mr. Golden then told him.

“Then I’m shaking like a leaf on a tree.” Don then replied.

“Donald, I have known your family for fifteen years. I consider you family and I take care of family.” Mr. Golden smiled.

“I know Mr. Golden. And again thank you for giving me this job.” Don then told him.

“You were born to be an agent Donald. The jobs you had before this one were just side jobs. Being an agent is the exact job for you.” Mr. Golden then said.

“Thank you.” Don then said.

“I strongly believe that you will be the best agent in this agency and maybe one day a partner in this agency.” Mr. Golden then told him.

“Mr. Golden I really appreciate the confidence you have in but, you will always be the top agent in this agency.” Don then replied.

“I have so much confidence in you that I already have a client waiting for you.” Mr. Golden then told him.

“He’s waiting for me right now?” Don then asked.

“As we speak.” Mr. Golden then smiled.

“Thanks again Mr. Golden.” Don then said as he left Mr. Golden’s office.

Brian shows Don where his desk is. Don doesn’t have an office yet. When they get to Don’s cubical there is a twenty one year old man waiting for him. The man has scruffy brown hair and has a soul patch. He’s wearing a New York Giants shirt with jeans and white sneakers.

“Sorry, to keep you waiting.” Don apologized as he walked into his cubical.

“That’s alright.” The man replied.

“I’m Don Mantia.” Don told the man.

“I’m Jacob Conway. My friends call me Jake, Jacob or JC.” Jacob told him.

“Where you from Jacob?” Don then asked.

“Trenton, New Jersey.” Jacob then answered.

“I’m from the Northeast myself. I’m from Staten Island, New York.” Don told him.

“That’s awesome. Where do I sign?” Jacob replied.

“That’s it?” Don then asked.

“All the other agents I’ve talked to were from here.” Jacob then told him.

“I hope my other clients are as easy to sign as you are.” Don laughed.

“Are the Golden’s good people?” Jacob then asked.

“I have known the Golden family for fifteen years now and I can tell you first hand that they’re the nicest and most honest people in LA.” Don then told him.

Jacob and Don shake hands. Don signs his first client on his first day of work.
