Hands Off

He didn’t dance around the truth;

he made his intentions clear.

He wanted someone for himself

and he came to get her here.

I played along, but never strayed.

Once, I simply thought

maybe now I’ll get some answers

and dismiss the rules you taught.

Bad things happen for a reason,

just like your jealousy.

Finally I can tell myself

you have eyes, just for me.

After all of his affection,

and my playful disregard,

you came to protect me;

it doesn’t make things quite as hard.

Acceptance came at last;

you spoke up just in time.

I love these words, they came from you…

“Hands off, she is mine.”
