Down in the Valley
As I walked through a lonesome valley
And strolled between the hills
I gazed upon a battered cross
As morn's blush peeked hillsides' sill.
I know that lonely bird that morning
was singing not just to me.
For I wasn't the only one present.
Jesus spoke, then I began to see.
The rising sun threw upon the green
The towering shadow that means my salvation
Of the holy, precious blood of God
That rescues me from condemnation.
I stare at the cross,
mounted to the ground and reaching to the sky;
It is my path to heaven,
But, in wonderment, still ask why.
Why did you allow them to spit on you,
Dismiss your divinity as filthy sod?
You accomplished it still
In Your power and will,
And then I know that You are God.
