Just a Dream

‘Just a dream’

you say.

Just.

Just a twisted,

twirling,

terrifying place

I go when I’m asleep.

What a world you live in,

where dreams do not touch you.

Where you can wake up,

wipe the sweat from your brow,

smile,

laugh,

breathe,

and use the word ‘just’.

I lock my dreams away,

bury them in daytime thoughts,

swallow the key.

And still they creep,

crawl,

slither,

through the keyhole,

into the pathways of my mind.

Just.

Someday I will introduce you

to my dreams.
