Once upon a time, actually it’s happening right now, there is this girl, well, young lady really, though if you look at her you can sweat she is still a little kid. She wears childish clothing and plays childish games. She is still naïve and trusts everybody. This isn’t a fairy tale; this isn’t some made up character for a book. This girl, young lady, pardon, is a real person.
Her best friends consist of a handful of humans, males and females respectively, and several pets of varying breeds, species, and genders. She has an obsession for a childhood game that continues probably longer than it should and she is jealous of her sibling’s lover. Not because she has one, just of that person in general.
Her college friends are backstabbers.
Her childhood friends are all but gone.
Her professors drive her crazy.
Her parents complain about each other to her behind the other’s back.
There are days she hopes life never ends. There are days she wants to break her own neck on a rope. There are days she really considers it.
On those days she stops herself. She has never begun the act of suicide. She may never. What stops her? A promise, two promises really. Promises she made to people she thinks do not need her anymore. Everyday she wonders, getting closer and closer to cracking. Wanting to take that leap…
But she is afraid of death. Maybe it is just the pain involved. But know for certain that it scares her all the same. She tells no one, especially not her family. They wouldn’t understand her feelings, for she, herself does not understand them.
So she lives on quietly. Day to day wondering what may happen next. She only ever breaks down in solitude, or so she tries. Gritting and baring the pain, allowing others, people she calls friends, to persuade and decide her life for her. How cruel fate can be. How cruel indeed.
