89. Through the Fire

Fire roar
Burn and bite.
Take of darkness
Make of light.

Through the ground
You shout and quiver.
To take of life
And make it wither.

Live to take,
Die to give.
Destroyed re-grow,
Your victims’ souls.

‘Away! Away!’
Your heat does shout.
‘Back! Come back!’
You gluttonous stomach.

You are temper,
Love and passion.
Uncontrolled
And so unwilling.

War you wage
On life’s own ground.
But death becomes you
As heat now does.

Winds are blowing
Skies are dark.
Continue blazing
Ashen heaps.

Your enemy comes,
Crawling closer.
Fingers dark
And creeping further.

Your time has come,
Grounded star.
Life is fleeting,
Death never far.

Ash grey clouds
Cover the skies,
Bellies rumbling,
You swollen death.

You battle fiercely
Unwilling to give.
The wetness take
From you your life.

When all is done,
Battle lost and won,
Recede to ground
To warm the floor.

And through you life,
Short as it was,
A creature stirs,
Newly disturbed.

Spared your wrath,
It slept through ash.
And spread its wings
To fly again.

A Phoenix glides.
Reborn again.
