Dreams
Just in my sight lies a plain
A stretch of earth, with nothing growing in it.
I know it’s good soil; it has potential
The ground is large enough for my plans
I sketch onto paper
A house; the one in my dreams.
I want a life-filled garden, roses around the door,
Ornate statues carved from grey stone,
Rich red brick walls, strong and sturdy,
An inviting front door, oak, with a brass knocker
In a heart shape
A water fountain by the gravel path
My pencil keeps slipping; I can’t put my vision on paper
The strong walls crumble,
The fountain spouts mud,
The garden withers, the roses never existed,
The statues crack in two, as does my heart.
The dream is beautiful but the reality is not.
I could try again; I do, hurrying to get the
Design complete before the deadline
I’m too quick, the pencil snaps in my hand
