Tombstone

The slant of the sky pitched us forward.
We knew not where, we knew not why,
But ‘we’ was all that mattered.

The shadows leapt from door to door,
The demons watched, the demons slept,
We were shades and nothing more.

I remember a time of golden rays,
You were sweet, you were mine.
We were beautiful in those days.

The flag is cast above all our souls.
Our eyes are closed, our eyes blink fast.
Your kiss filled my heart’s holes.

The winter’s cold, it frosts my lips.
I am far too soft, I am far too bold.
From your river of care I took sips.

The slant of your sky pitched me forward.
I knew not where, I knew not why,
But you are all that matters.
