In Between Two Cities

Now I can only look down and see what I miss

From this so called vantage point

Surrounded by a city full of people I have yet to meet

Somehow alone, but still no chance to escape.

I sat once in a valley and looked up to where I am now,

Sat in some dirty slum surrounded by dirty people

Looking for some solution to break the bonds that tie them

To a history as intense as the smoke around them.

I can walk on the fields in between these two cities

And feel the mist cling to me like the memories of home.

But home is no longer where it was and I am lost,

Familiarity has fled away from me for the final time.

I can see behind me and in front of me, living in this

City of steel, bound by loyalty to remain here and trying

Not to fall in love again with another city and another life

As some ties melt into liquid metal and soon I know I will feel free.
