I touched the little box in my pocked and smiled. I really hoped I had done the right thing, picked the right thing. All my life I’d waited for someone like her and now that I’d found her I don’t want to loose her. Her name is Melanie Jameson, the perfect girl for me. My name is Richard Bane and I don’t know what I would have done if I had never met Melanie. I met her at a bookstore of all places. We hit it off right away, instantly bonding over the fact that neither one of us could find the book we were looking for. We had now known each other for two years, dated for one and a half of them. I was about to take a huge risk, one that may mean I would loose her, but I wanted to take the chance. After tonight I would either loose her or she would be mine forever. I just hope she’s mine forever and I don’t scare her away.

I had just left the jewelry store, walking out into the crisp night air. It was seven o’clock and I was supposed to meet Melanie at seven thirty. I was meeting her at her favorite restaurant, I wanted tonight to be perfect, to be special. Tonight would either make today the best day of my life, or the worst. It would all depend on Melanie’s answer to my question. I had been planning this day so long now and I prayed I wasn’t about to blow everything. I had picked out everything that she loved from the champagne to the meal itself, it was all ordered nothing could go wrong.

I made it to the restaurant by seven twenty. I stepped into the place with a huge smile on my face, thinking about what a wonderful evening this was going to be.

“Ah, Mr. Bane, everything is prepared for you, do you have the box?” A man asked as soon as I had stepped into the restaurant. The man was in a suite, standing at the table, waiting to seat everyone. He was clean-shaven with Black hair and Brown eyes.

“Yes, I do, right here,” I replied as I pulled the box out of my jacket pocket. “Be extra careful with this, this is the whole night.”

“We shall be Mr. Bane,” the man replied smiling. “And if you will follow me I will seat you at the table and escort Ms. Jameson back as soon as she arrives.”

“Thank you,” I replied nodding.

I followed him back to the table, nerves kicking in as I reached the table. I sat down as I nervously waited for Melanie to arrive. She had had a meeting earlier; she had gone straight home afterwards to get ready, which is why we had decided it was best if we met at the restaurant.

After waiting five minutes Melanie arrived. She came back escorted by the man from earlier. She had blonde hair and blue eyes. She was around five feet six inches and had the most amazing eyes I had ever had the pleasure of beholding. He smile always cheered me up and her touch made everything seem better. I smiled wide at her as I stood up to greet her. I enveloped her in my arms giving her a long hug and then a quick peck on the lips. She smiled at me and looked at the table.

“This is beautiful,” she said of the place. I walked over and pulled her chair out for her, allowing her to sit down and then pushing it forward.

“Not as beautiful as you are,” I replied honestly, looking into her eyes.

She blushed slightly and smiled as the waitress brought out our food. She looked shocked for a minute until she saw what the meal was her favorite. The waitress poured us each a glass of wine and we commenced eating our dinner. There was a stream of conversation the whole time as there always was when we were together and I couldn’t help smiling almost every second. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this women I just hoped she felt the same.

After we had finished dinner the waitress brought out our dessert, chocolate cake. She set a piece in front of me and then set the second piece in front of Melanie. On top of the second piece sat a lone ring. I smiled as her eyes widened. I got up and walked over to her, falling to one knee when I reached her. I grabbed her hand and she looked into my eyes.

“Melanie, we’ve known each other for a while now and gotten to know each other so well. I love you with all my heart and you mean everything to me, I never want to loose you. Will you marry me?”

Melanie gasped slightly, taken completely by surprise. She didn’t say anything for a few minutes, which started to worry me. She smiled after the few minutes of silence and started to not her head.

“Yes, I’ll marry you Richard,” she said quietly, shock and awe all over her face and in her voice. “I love you more than anything and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

I smiled, standing up and pulling her onto her feet. I gave her a huge hug and a kiss. Tonight was the absolute best night of my life and she has now made me the happiest man on earth.
