Lady Moon
The moon hung bright and full in a dark sky above the young earth. Lush forests that glowed vibrantly green beneath her brother’s sun had pulled shades of blue and black over themselves like blankets. This night, and all others, belonged to her alone. The seas and lakes and rivers reflected the beauty of the night and even the mountains, dark shadows against her sky, bowed to the majestic canvas of glittering stars. The sun was abed until morning, leaving only the brilliant disk of white to light the land.
Hiranor walked beside the river, listening to the song of the night. The crickets chirped a steady beat to which the water gurgled and splashed and the trees whispered their enchanting words. All the land greeted her passing with joy and reverence, for she was the goddess who had brought beauty into the weaving of the world.
As she climbed through the night back to her moon, she glanced over her shoulder and smiled. She had guided the hands that had created this world and given them each their part of it. For herself, she had asked only the moon, from which she could gaze upon it all.
