Timeless

Time does not tick by in hours and seconds

It is irregular, irrational and does not bend at will.

It stretches out for eons

As you wait, pencil in hand, anxious and sweaty

When will this end?

Then you blink off the dust and the darkening fog

Its years later and you’re looking back

Dolls and tea parties are a thing of the past

And you can’t remember the last time you studied for a test

It’s all work and worry, rush, report and file

You blink again though crinkled eyes and watch your daughter do the same

Visits to the doctor and ominous news now cloud you

Somewhat regretfully you wonder where the days went

But time doesn’t matter now, it doesn’t exist

You think of this arbitrarily

As you tiptoe across the carpet

Your fingers tracing along the smooth tops and ridges,

A flick of your finger a twinge of your heart , and you pick one

Admiring it , touching it gently , before placing it and pressing play

And as the notes float along, you smile and the wrinkles fade

No need for lost memories and worries about missed weddings and cancer

Right now all that matters is the soft feel of the carpet under your feet

And the soft sounds reaching your ears

Something’s are timeless

Just a little something I wrote in French class oddly enough

Comments, Critique?
