I once knew a man who lost his whole world
It was soft and slow
But eventually it disappeared
And everything came true
Like nothing he had feared

He wandered the emptiness
Searching for some happiness
But he couldn’t find a single soul
That could make his lost world whole

Catacombs and black-filled holes
Were now his habitation
And nothing between those black hard walls
Could ease his soul’s starvation

He tried to think of joyful things
Like sunshine on a winter day
That relieves our tender fingers from the cold
Or a morning starting with a poem
Composed by your not so secret admirer
And a letter from a friend
Just letting you know he’s thinking about you
But joy was blurry now, in this limbo
And his heart, seemingly beating
Could not see beyond the window

And wandering one day
He found a man who smiled brightly
And from his lips came thoughts so strong
He raged out at him slightly

The man told him he had hurt himself
That all this was his fault
He told him he hadn’t lost his world
He had never had a real world at all

How dare you tell me this!
he said
How dare you blame me this!
What have I done to anyone
To merit this black abyss?

You see, my friend you have many things
Weighing heavy on your conscience
And you saw a light that stemmed from lies
The Devil’s dark accomplice

What brought to you these lovely things
Like pain and desperation?
The same path that led you through your fake world
With success and inspiration?

Now look back at your life of past
Each time you moved up in the procession
There was always a lie, a cheat or a steal
To feed your own obsession

What are these tales you wretched man?!
He spoke in desperation
For looked he, too, upon his past
And came slowly to comprehension

The path you took I am afraid
Was good and well at first
But now you see this lonely ending
Couldn’t be much worse

But change your path and all is well
For God can help you strive
For thought it’s surely tough at times
Your spirit never dies

And of this man I heard no more
But hear me when I say this
As I thought I realized
I may be in the dark
I just need to open my eyes
