I get into the car
The smell of the stale air is
Stifling
The key turns with a soft click
And the engine shudders into life
Pull out of the garage
The soft pressure of the brakes
Weakly resisting my will.
Reverse,
Brake,
Drive,
Stop,
Turn…
The sun bursts free from the horizon’s
Restraining confines
Spreading a glorious expanse of
Reds and Golds over the
Just-awakened sky.
The clouds roll
Laughing for joy at the Sun’s
Life-giving rays.
The earth soaks it in,
Thirsty and craving
After its absence.
It is magnificent.
The drive to school is
Forgotten.
There is nothing that could tear away my gaze.
