"NOAH I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!!" I shrieked at my brother.
"What did I do?" Noah asked, innocently.
"YOU JERK!!" I yelled.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. What's going on?" Mom asked, walking out of the kitchen. Noah and I burst into explanations at the same time.
"Noah totally…"
"Rye's exaggerating…"
"…took off without even…"
"…it was a complete accident…"
"…waiting for me after school…"
"…I had to get gas…"
"…with some bimbo…"
"…I was gonna…she was not a bimbo!" Noah said.
"Oh she so was." I said.
"Hey…stop!" Mom said. I glared at Noah before turning to my mother. Noah shook his head, causing his brown hair to fall into his eyes. I impatiently pushed my sandy blonde hair out of my face.
"I had to catch the bus home because someone wanted to impress the school slut." I said.
"You made your sister take the bus?" Mom asked.
"I was coming back!" Noah said. "If she had waited like five or ten minutes I would have been there."
"Oh bullshit." I said.
"Don't start up with me, Rye." Noah said.
"Oh what happened? Didn't get what you wanted?" I asked.
"Enough!" Mom said. "Noah Curtis Pratt, next time wait for you sister or else the keys are getting taken away."
"Aww mum…" Noah whined.
"Haha…" I said, sticking out my tongue.
"Riley Anne Pratt, leave your brother alone." Mom said. I rolled my eyes. "Remember, Andy, Shauna and Bridgette are coming over for dinner."
"I know mum…Gette's got it stuck in my head all day." I said. "I have some stuff to do so call me when they get here ok?"
"Sure hun." Mom said. I ran upstairs to my room. I turned on my computer and changed clothes. School dress codes are so picky. I changed into a red spaghetti strap tank top and a black pair of shorts before sitting down and opening up my messenger and music folders. I turned slightly to pull my keyboard closer as I watched the screen.
"Speaking of Gette…she's online." I said. I turned to fully face the computer and started an IM with my cousin.
Love you, Hate you says: Shouldn't you be getting ready? Lord knows it takes you hours to get ready, just to come over to my place.
Kisses are to Die for says: Haha very funny. I am getting ready…doesn't mean I can't chat and do that at the same time. I'm the queen of multitasking.
Love you, Hate you says: Yeah huh…you keep telling yourself that.
Kisses are to Die for says: I'll have you know I am doing excellently.
Love you, Hate you says: Your grandfather must be so proud.
"Hey Rye…you got any…" Noah asked, barging into my room.
"GET OUT!!" I yelled, throwing my slipper at him.
"Yeesh, fine." Noah said. I got up and pushed him out of the room.
"I need a lock on my door mom!!" I yelled, slamming the door. I sat back down.
Love you, Hate you says: Gette you are so lucky you're an only child.
Kisses are to Die for says: Noah getting on your nerves again?
Love you, Hate you says: When is he not? I thought it would be cool having him take a fifth year because then I would still get drives but no…he totally skips out to take Charlotte for a spin.
Kisses are to Die for says: He's a guy, Riley…they're prone to think with their dicks.
I laughed and shook my head before looking though my latest projects: writing songs and lyrics for the school's play. Every year there is a play in June and for the last two years I've been involved in them. Ok so it's technically only been the one year because I'm only in tenth grade but I'm involved in it this year so there. The computer dinged and I clicked on the minimized window that held my conversation with Bridgette.
Kisses are to Die for says: Hey I'll see you in a few because we're getting ready to leave now.
Love you, Hate you says: Ok…see ya.
I closed the window and turned my attention to the songs. I opened up my music mix software before turning to my keyboard. I hit the record button before I started playing and began singing under my breath. I stopped recording and turned to the computer to load in what I had.
"You're getting better." I tilted my head back to watch my dad walk in.
"Thanks." I said.
"So your mom tells me that you and your brother were fighting…again." Dad said. I shrugged and turned back to the screen before I started fooling around with the sounds and adjusting things…taking away some parts, lengthening other parts. "Do I have to tell you that your brother really does care about you, again?"
"If you think you do." I said.
"Riley…you know Noah cares about you. You make him panic often enough to know that." Dad said. I didn't react to that.
"How was work?" I asked, changing the subject.
"Same as ever." Dad said. "Oh…I have some news for you."
"Ok." I said, slowly turning my head from the computer to look at my dad as he sat on my bed.
"They're looking for someone new to sign." Dad said. I stared at him. Oh…I should probably tell you that my dad works with a recording company. He was like almost the top guy there.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yep." Dad said. "I told my boss about you and the girls so he told me to get a demo CD." I squealed and launched myself at him, hugging him and nearly causing him to fall off the bed.
"You are the best dad in the world! The universe!!" I said.
"Don't be thanking me yet." Dad said. "You still gotta make a demo of at least five songs and then we gotta wait until they think it's good."
"Yeah I know but you managed to make it like…possible to ever get the demo to them." I said.
"I do what I can for my girl." Dad said. "Now we gotta go downstairs because Andy and them should be here soon."
"Ok." I said. I saved what I had before turning off my stuff and following dad out of my room. We walked down the stairs and I went to get the table set. Noah was standing by the stove, mashing potatoes. I rolled my eyes and got down seven plates and grabbed the same number of knives and forks. I'm good at balancing things. I put the knives and forks down first then did the plates.
"One of these days you'll drop those." Mom said.
"Yeah maybe." I said. "But it wasn't today."
"Ding dong!"
"Uncle Andy's here." I said, spinning around and running up the stairs to greet my uncle, aunt and cousin.
"There's my favourite niece." Andy said.
"I'm your only niece." I said. I hugged him then I hugged my aunt Shauna. "Hello for the third time Bridgette."
"Yep." Bridgette said. She tossed her strawberry blonde hair over her shoulder. Uncle Andy has blonde hair, Aunt Shauna has red…Bridgette wound up with both.
"So I hear there was a big fight between the two of ya." Andy said. I looked over my shoulder to see Noah coming up the stairs.
"It wasn't big." Noah said. "Rye likes to exaggerate things."
"I do not!" I said.
"Hard to believe you two were practically inseparable when you were first born, Riley." Shauna said.
"We so were not." I said.
"No, it's true." Andy said. "You, Noah and Jason were so close. Then Noah turned twelve and it was just you and Jason…"
"Andy." Mom said. "Touchy subject." I frowned. Stupid Uncle Andy bringing up Jason. God…and I was so happy too until then.
