I saw Someone die tonight.

It was the hardest thing to live through.

She was so pretty, so smart and kind.

Red hair, as fiery as the sun.

Hazelnut eyes, the color of acorns falling by the summerhouse.

Faint freckles painting her skin, the color of dust on the ground.

White skin, as creamy as the milk I feed my kitten.

Then she fell.

Her hair turned grey, the color of a dreary day in February.

Her eyes blackened, to coal in the fireplace.

Her freckles faded, to old ashes after a fire.

Her skin soured, month's old milk.

I wiped away my tears, clear as river water,

and turned away from my reflection.
