chapter 3:
House of horrors-The arrival (part 1)
XxX
It was quiet outside-too quiet. Everyone was most likely already asleep. Kana trailed behind Kyosuke's footsteps. She shifted the weight of the bag in her right hand- that held all the things for their overnight camp out-to the other. Looking back at the direction of the house they came from, Kana only saw darkness. They were closer to the 'haunted' house now. When she finally turned back there was only darkness infront of her too. Kyosuke was gone.
"waaa-" the green haired girl looked around slowly. Her hands were clasped together infront of her chest. She continued walking though. When she turned her head to the side, she got startled. Kyosuke stood four inches above her staring her in the face.
Kana's right hand now lay over her denim jacketed chest. Her heartbeat was racing. "It's only you. Jeez you scared me." she said giving a nervous laugh, which made Kyosuke raise his eyebrows at what was going on. Hands not moving from their position, she felt her heart beats returning to normal. With that she walked ahead and began to lead the rest of the way.
Not too long after they arrived at their destination. The yellow tape still blocked off the surrounding area. There was really no point to it through; if anybody actually wanted to get through, they could. All they had to do was pass below the tape. And that is just what the two did.
Kana ducked below the tapes. As if they were lasers or dangerous; she avoided being touched, and when she was actually touched she let out a sigh of defeat. Getting pass it all she turned back to see her friend make it. He bended slightly and simultaneously lifted the tape coolly above his head to get pass.
-hmph- "showoff" she pouted gaining a chuckle from her friend.
"let's get this over with"
"should we go through the gates?"
"it's locked" he held the pad in his hand "well then we should just go back-"
"oh no you don't" with this Kana threw her belongings over the gate and started to climb it. She made a small -oof- and landed in a crouching position, then slowly got up. Getting up she found herself staring into pale blue eyes that reflected dim yellow light from the moon.
"Kyosuke?" uhh-oh...she looked at Kyosuke then to the gate and back to her friend again.
"turns out the gate wasn't actually locked." Kana looked at him quizzically "I guess they put it there to trick intruders-" he turned to Kana.
Kana looked off into the distance and gave one the trees a fearful glance. Then she turned around with a smile before walking to the porch. When Kyosuke reached at her side he saw her looking into the air.
"Kyosuke. Look at the sky."
They were both now staring at the starless sky, obviously not noticing it before. But they didn't get to stare at it for a long time because soon after, a down pour of rain began to fall. The gray clouds overhead quickly turned darker shades into black. For a moment the moon was concealed by a cloud and the area was shrouded in darkness. The clouds then lit up as light shimmered and flashed through them. Not long after thunder roared into the night.

Staring out into the night the figure watched-from the highest window- two figures approach and then disappear under the porch roof. Almost immediately after a down pour of rain began, accompanied by thunder and lightening. The door below opened and closed, signaling that the two from before were inside. Pushing off from the window sill-that they currently pressed against-the figure walked away.

The floor boards creaked with every step. Thunder from outside still roared and seemed to shake the house. Every ten seconds lightening gleamed in the sky and provided the only light source in the shrouded building. Kana looked out a hallway window and saw the moon-already out from hiding-cast uncanny shadowy figures beside a tree. She let out a small cry of fear as both her and Kyosuke continued walking.
Without warning Kyosuke stopped, causing Kana to bump into him. He didn't move from the impact which made her make a small grunt as she stumbled back.
"hey-" she shouted without sounding angry.
Kyosuke took the bag -that draped over his shoulders and around his chest-off. He searched around in it for awhile before pulling out a flashlight. The deeper they went into the house the darker it got as it stayed away from even the slightest dim light of the moon.
On the outside it looked like a regular two story house, but on the inside it was massive.
Kyosuke walked forward a bit before glancing over his shoulder. Kana did the same, taking out a flashlight that she carried in her bag, before making a few skips behind her friend to stay close. They turned on the flashlights and went deeper into the house. A dead end shortly came making them turn a corner. There was a closed door going into the wall and the new hall leading to nothing but darkness. Kana cautiously turned the doorknob, carefully opening it as to not make any noise…but to no avail. The door creaked with every inch. She shined the artificial light into the dark. There was a staircase that led down; probably to a basement.
Before they did anything else, Kana found her way over the threshold, hand bent behind her on the inner side of the knob. She peered down the flight of stairs, not looking for anything in particular.
“why don’t we go separate ways-“ Kana glanced at the side to see Kyo, the rest of her body not moving. “that way we’d get more done” Kyosuke had begun to retreat into the dark. With a sigh Kana also surrendered to the darkness that awaited her.
--
It was quiet. The blazing rain seemed like tiny footfalls now. Darkness engulfed the surrounding area with a circle of light that cut through its center. Kana continued walking on. True intentions were becoming clouded by mixtures of fear and excitement.
Kana shined the flashlight above her head, seeing cobwebs draping off the basements ceiling like Halloween decorations. While looking up she continued stepping back until…bam…her head spun to face the object that she had just bumped into. There was a brown sheet-actually, white, and fully covered in dust- hanging over something. The sheet trailed along through the room she was in. Hesitantly, Kana raised her hand to touch the object in question. Even after making contact, nothing happened. Her next hand went to meet the other before tugging at the sheet.
She wasn’t meant to be one of the strongest people in the world. For that, the task at hand proved to be difficult. It was only after her third try that she succeeded. Maybe the third time was the charm after all. At least the saying went something like that.
The large sheet, even as Kana was using all her strength, was removed slowly, only to reveal giant mirrors. It resembled something out of a fun house and she was in the middle of it all; quite literally.
A/N: I'm so sorry for the long wait.
I had a tough time deciding if to split this chapter into 2 parts, or leave it as one. I decided to split it in two. That way the chapter and the number in the box will correspond. You know like, this reads chapter 3 and the box will read 4. Jeez Prologues throw things out of balance don't they.
If anyone can think of a new title please tell me. I hope you enjoyed this chapter Read and Review.
