Empty Victories

She looked at the sight around her:
The barren, icy wasteland

Full of crumbled lives that

Disaster had left in its wake.

Touching the scars on her body

She sank to the ground in dismay.

She really had tried her best.

She'd done everything right.

And yet still nothing…

Only now did she realize the truth:

That they were all

Nothing but

Empty victories;

A battle won,

A war lost.
