To dream is surely heaven sent,
Aye, for Endymion there he spent
Each distant day in peaceful rest
Pale hands upon pale chest.
With eyes unseeing to the sky
And countless days which passed him by,
Youth's beauty ne'er diminishing
Eternal blossom of the spring,
Who wanders not in sun, but shade
Under great, towering trees beneath which he laid
Inanimate perfect, a mortal king
Yet a bird which could not sing.
Blessed by moonlight's veil, divine
He suffered not the cruel decay of time
By life's fickle fortune Selene had sighed
Casting a faeries spell upon the mountainside.
