“Earth. The year 2007. The World is still turning despite the many natural disasters of tornados, floods, and earthquakes and people go about their daily lives as if oblivious to what is going on around them. Especially about a phenomenon that occurs every forty years. No one is privy to it except for those chosen few. Those chosen to protect this world from utter annihilation.”

ALLEY CATS

Episode One: Project I.D.

The average height brunette hurried along the hallway, her brown eyes shining as she took in the surrounding area of her Boston public school. She ignored some of the glances from the teenage boys in the hall as she rushed over to her locker where her best friend was waiting for her.

“I’m so sorry I am late,” she said out of breath to which the other fifteen-year-old girl shook her head with a grin as her light green eyes twinkled.

“It’s to be expected, I mean your class is all the way on the other side of the school” she replied as she pushed her fingers through her long light brown hair that as usual was up in two pigtails, her blue bows on the lower half of the pigtails.

“Well thanks for waiting anyway Zoey” she smiled as she closed the locker with a slam and placed her books into her backpack, “I am so glad that the day is over. In fact I am so glad that the week is over.”

Zoey giggled as they moved back down the hall heading in the same direction of the other rushing students. She took notice of the boys who were all admiring her best friend’s good looks.

“They’re looking at you again Kit” she said with another smile.

“Uh” Kit grimaced rolling her eyes, “I wish they would get a hobby. There are other girls in this school you know.”

“But they are not as interesting as you apparently. Oh speaking of boys” Zoey stopped as Kit knelt down to tie her shoes, “There’s a new student in my English class.”

“Oh.”

“Mhm. I think you might like him.”

“You know how I feel about boys Zoey” Kit said as they began to move towards the front doors once more,"As far as I am concerned, the only boys I care about in this world are my father and my little brothers.”

“I can understand that about your father” Zoey nodded, “But brothers are a pain in the neck,” she added since she had four older brothers.

“Older brothers may be” Kit replied, “But I have two younger. And twins at that. I don’t know what I would do without them. Besides you, they’re the only people I have around me. Well them and Nana since mom and dad are always traveling.”

“Speaking of which, when are they coming home?” Zoey asked curiously as they finally walked out into the bright sunlit grounds of the school courtyard.

“They won’t be back for another two weeks” Kit said with a sigh as she saw a crowd of girls walking over to the baseball fields on the side of the school, “What’s going on?” she asked as she shielded her eyes with her hand from the bright sun.

“Oh” Zoey looked in the same direction that the crowd was headed, “That must be where the new boy is. He said he was trying out for the baseball team.”

“Instant popularity already?” Kit replied with a raise of her eyebrows.

“I guess. The big game is this weekend. Oh that reminds me!” she suddenly exclaimed as she pulled out a magazine from her bag and they moved past the crowd of girls toward the streets that led to their homes.

“Hmm?” Kit looked over at her as they stopped at the don’t walk sign, “What is it?”

“You interested in going to see an exhibit with me?” she asked as she flipped through the magazine to the page she was searching for.

"What exhibit?"

“This one” she replied as she found the page and held it out for Kit to see.

On the front page in bright colors were the words:

EXPLORE THE ENVIROMENT WE LIVE IN!

Come experience the world through the eyes of those who love it the most. See the plants and animals that are in need of your help.

“What’s this all about? The environment?”

“I thought it might be a good idea” Zoey nodded, “I mean we do have that project due in a couple of months that has to do with the environment. We could get some good research done.”

“Hmm? I guess” she shrugged.

“Please go with me Kit” Zoey begged, “I really want to see it and there’s no way my brothers are going to go with me. What do you say? Will you go with me tomorrow?” she asked as they finally arrived at their street that was full of many brick townhouses.

“Well, all right” Kit conceded, “It does sound kind of interesting. Okay” she nodded at last, “I’ll go with you.”

“Yea!” Zoey cheered as the put the magazine back in her bag; “I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning. Do you want a coffee?”

“Most definitely” Kit nodded as she turned down the sidewalk that led up to her house, “See you tomorrow!” she waved as Zoey ran across the road to her house that was straight across from her best friend’s.

Kit closed the door quietly and smelt the air. There was a delicious aroma coming from the kitchen. Which could only mean one thing. Her Nana had made another scrumptious afternoon snack. She placed her backpack next to her younger brother’s that were lying by the door. With a sigh she straightened all the bags under the coat rack and then walked into the kitchen where her sixty seven year old Nana was waiting with a smile.

“Hello sweetheart” she greeted as Kit sat on one of the stools that was under the large counter, “Your brothers just got in a few minutes before you.”

“And where are those two little monkeys?” Kit asked teasingly as he Nana placed a piece of apple pie in front of her granddaughter along with a fork.

“Oh they went into their rooms to get ready for their soccer practice.”

“Oh yea. Indoor soccer season starts this month too” Kit nodded as she took a bite of her pie, “This is good Nan, but do you think you can make the banana cream one next time?”

Nana chuckled and nodded.

“I forgot that’s your favorite. Apple is your father’s. I have to remember that. Everything yellow is your favorite.”

“That’s right” Kit grinned, “The color yellow. That means sunflowers, bananas, lemons, and even yellow pencils.”

Nana chuckled a second time as Kit finished her pie and gulped down the milk that her Nana handed her in the small glass.

“Well” Kit said with a sigh, “I guess I’ll go change into more comfortable clothes. Are you taking the twins to the place?”

“Yes” Nana nodded, “So you just relax. After all it is the weekend” she moved from the kitchen into the living room to put on her shoes, “Let’s go boys!” she called.

A couple moments later two ten- year old blue- green- eyed boys with brown hair came bouncing into the room. Kyle and Keith were identical twins with completely opposite personalities. Kyle was the more rambunctious of the two and liked his brown hair to be medium length and somewhat messy, while Keith the more studious preferred his hair shorter. About the only things they liked the same was each other and the sport of soccer. When they saw Kit they immediately ran over to embrace her and then turned to their grandmother who was holding onto their blue and purple soccer bags. Keith took the blue bag and then turned to his older sister.

“Are you going to come and watch?” he asked.

“Not this time” she shook her head, “I have a few things I want to get done since I am going out tomorrow.”

“With who?” Kyle teased, “A boy?”

“Don’t be stupid Kyle” Keith replied a bit angrily, “She wouldn’t do something like that without telling dad first or us for that matter. More than likely she is going out with Zoey.”

“That’s right” Kit nodded with a smile at her brother’s protective nature, “Now you two better hurry or you’ll be late.”

“She’s right” Nana agreed, “Now scoot!” she added to the boys who giggled and ran forward as she grabbed her keys from the table that sat behind the couch, “Is there anything you need me to bring back darling?” she asked before also departing.

“Just yourselves” Kit replied as her grandmother nodded and walked out the door.

Kit walked into the kitchen, picked up her plate and cup, and placed them in the sink for her grandmother to wash later as she always insisted on doing. Then she walked to her room to change out of her school clothes.

Meanwhile on the other side of town, a young teen stood behind the man who sat at the large computer monitor his blue eyes concentrating on the screen. The room they were in was completely dark except for the bright light coming from the screen.

“And you’re certain that everything is in place?” he asked.

“Yes Master” the man with short brown and green eyes nodded as he pushed the mouse around, “The I.D. has been placed in the exact location you requested” his English accent coming out clearly, “Daniella meanwhile is setting up the booth with a catchy phrase. If any of them are there tomorrow, we will know.”

“Good” the young teen nodded pulling strand of his short black hair out of his eyes so he could see even more clearly, “The sooner we start this project, the better. Who knows when they will make their move?”

The older man nodded a second time as he focused his eyes once more on the screen and typed in more information fast on the keyboard.

The next morning Zoey greeted Kit with a cup of Starbucks coffee so they drank on their way to the Environment exhibit that was being held at the Convention Center. Once inside they saw several booths with people talking about all things to do with the environment. In a corner of the room near the endangered species booth stood a young teenage boy with blond hair and penetrating brown eyes. He looked up as Kit and Zoey moved around the room taking in the appearance of Kit’s face. He moved slowly through the crowd of people over to them as they stood at a water preservation booth.

“Pardon me” he replied making them look up, “You’re in my English class aren’t you?” he asked Zoey.

“Oh” she grinned when she saw him, “Yea you’re the new boy aren’t you?” she added as Kit stared back at his equally attractive features.

“Yea” he nodded with a smile, “My name is Adam Moon.”

“Hello Adam. My name is Zoey Conlon and this is my best friend” she replied holding onto her arm, “Kit Morgan.”

“Nice to meet both of you” he nodded a second time as Kit nodded slowly, “So are you guys interested in this stuff?” he asked more to Kit then Zoey.

“Oh well” Kit said a bit nervously taking up the cue as Zoey grinned from her side liking what she was seeing, “Zoey and I were just checking it out. Are you?”

“I always have been” he replied with a nod, “Actually my goal is to become a worker in the rainforest. Or maybe a Marine Biologist. I never could really make up my mind.”

“Well Adam” Zoey said, “Would you like to go around with us to look at the exhibits?”

“Zoey?” Kit replied a bit stunned blushing a little.

“If you wouldn’t mind?” he asked with a grin.

“We don’t mind, do we Kit?” said turning to her friend who was trying not to blush.

“Uh no” she shook her head, “I guess not.”

“Great” he replied with a sigh of relief, “Because I really don’t know anyone yet. We just moved to Boston only five days ago.”

“Then let us be your guide” Zoey added with another grin as they began to walk around the center.

Kit followed as a tall red head caught her attention slightly as she raised her voice.

“Come one! Come all! Step right up and see if you are compatible with our project!” she shouted in her Irish brogue, “Project I.D.!

(End Scene)

Next Time on Alley Cats:

“Are you compatible?” the red head asked as Zoey, Kit, and Adam stood before the machine with wonder in their eyes.

“Nothing is happening?” Kit thought as she stood under the questionable beam, “No wait that is not true” she added as she felt a sensation in her body.

“I think we have a match!” the man shouted to his master as he stood from his computer excitedly.

“What’s that?” Zoey asked in a terrified voice as they heard the many shrieks from outside.

A large Praying Mantis stood above the Convention center it’s piercing legs aiming for the terrified people.

Zoey and Adam begin running as Kit is pulled out of the way by a mysterious black haired teenage boy.

“You’re the only one who can stop that thing,” he explained as he handed her a charm bracelet with a yellow cat charm.

A bright yellow light surrounds her.

“What is this feeling?” Kit thought her brown eyes wide with confusion.

Authors Note: Hey guys. This story is going to be written very much like an anime. Also think Tokyo Mew Mew meets Sailor Moon, that’s what this story is going to be kind of like. See you all later!!!
