Time to Begin

What would I have to do
To earn your love?
To earn your trust?
I could show you that I know -
That I understand. I must!
I've been through it all again and again,
And every time I think that it's time to begin
It's already time to end.

I know you have been broken -
So have I. I still have cracks.
I wish I could help you pick up the pieces,
But I know that isn't what you want.
It's not what you need.
Maybe I can give you some leftover crazy glue?
It might help you re-assemble from your dis-eases.
We can both proudly display our jagged lines
And the chips and holes that remain through time.
Who knows, it could start a trend!

All I can do is plant a seed
And nurture it with warmth and kindness.
I hope that in time, it will grow
Into a flower as brilliant as I know you are.
Maybe then you will see how much
You mean to me.
I know its strange to think such now -
We have barely just begun this journey.
But my clairvoyant eye has wandered further down the road.
I know the bumps - the curves - the dips.
I can tell there is a smooth ride, though.
It's just around the bend.

So don't give up hope.
It may seem funny right now to believe -
To dream. But I'm telling you it's not in err.
It's hard to realize this
When things are rough.
I know, I've been there. It's tough.
But just look at me, grab my hand.
I'll take you to a distant far-off land
Where we can dream together.
I'll be here when you're ready.
Let me know when it's time to mend.
Let me know when it's time to begin, again.
