It was the other day

And I was sitting,

Chewing gum, and

Petting my kitty

All warm and purring in my lap

When my kitty

Looked up at me

And the queerest

Desire,

A sudden--

And oddly loving Urge--

Urge

That nothing in the world

Could show my affection

For this cat

Better than spitting

The flavorless gum in my mouth

Right onto her forehead

Fret not for my kitty

I, instead, wrote this poem

About such a deep

And unforseen

Desire.
