Panda: I wrote this for my creative writing class. Not one word is more than one syllable. I can swear to that. That was our challenge. If you find a word, say so in a review and I’ll look into it and, if found, I will change it. If not, I won’t. Enjoy.

All character Ó Me

--------------------------

His blonde hair fell in his eyes, his sight made worse. The rain soaked his clothes the whole way through as he made his way up the path to the large old house. The lights were on; she was still up at this hour of the night, up with the book she liked the most this week.

He saw her in his mind, and he smiled. She did that to him. Her red hair pulled back with a scarf, curls down her back. Bright blue eyes held a light that none could. Her small frame, great for the hugs she gave him. And her heart, which was there to care, it seemed. She cared; for all her friends and, of course, for him.

She did not know that he cared more than the rest. That he would give his life to keep her safe for the rest of hers. That he would kill if she told him to. That his heart broke each time a tear fell down her face.

He was there, at the door and would knock. Yet he did not. His hand did not move from his side as he thought. Was this right? Would she smile and hug him, and things be right? There was one way to find out, now or…no, he would not think like that.

Five knocks, and he stood, his heart in a dance that would cause him pain if she did not come. On that porch, so late at night, he did wait. One, two, three, four…His count was brought to a halt as the door left his sight and she was there. Her eyes met his and a smile crept on her face.

“Why are you here so late?”

“I had to see you.” He had to say it now, or he would not get the chance and she would move on. He could not live if she did. If she left him like that.

“Do you want to come in?” She was so nice, so kind. He loved her for that, too.

“I can’t. I just had to tell you that I…” His voice quit on him. His heart was in his throat. He was scared. What is she turned on him, said no?

Krys gave him a hug and a smile. “You can tell me what you have to tell me, you know that. I don’t care what it is.”

It was time to tell it all. “Krys…I love you.”

The night was quiet, and she looked at the floor of the porch. Those three words rang in her ears, as if he had said the too loud.

He would go. She did not want him. As he made to leave, she took hold of his hand.

“I love you too, Drake.”

And then the rain did stop.
