Pray, To Not Let Me Down

By Jenny Valentine

Pray to a twilight sky
In the midst of a place
Where darkness surrounds us all

Hands clasped together, you hope…
With every thread of your being
That everything will be all right
That not all you live for…
Is a lost cause

This is your faith
And whether it fails or prevails
Is all in the hands of the higher
Of someone holy and worshipped

Of a God

Will you let me down?
Do you even hear my silent cries?
…My distress?

Doubt creates a black hole where your trust resides

So many things lost, forgotten
And so many promises broken
They were all empty
All lies and no truths

So you pray to the night sky
In the time where darkness takes over
With hands clasped tightly
But even in the abyss, you see traces of light
All twinkling down on you, on everyone

This is your hope in faith and faith in hope

As you pray…

Don’t let me down.
