The Rainforest–pt. 2

-

A whole year has passed since this storm first came.

Ruins still show much of the hurt, anguish, and pain.

The people here and now are much stronger than they look.

They are still trying to regain what the storm violently took.

-

A year’s worth of friendships have grown so much more;

Thirty years’ worth of memories are at their very core.

The memories started long ago were replaced by less than the best,

Especially since their subject has long since laid at rest.

-

There were oft memories of him standing up for a fight,

Now prevail memories of him, in a coffin, out of sight.

Where once were the memories of him surrounded by smiles,

Now, alone, are the imagries of him looking for us for miles.

-

We’re all trying very hard to overcome this great defeat

Of a smile, of a laugh, of a friend who can’t be beat.

I’m not the only forest now who’s trying to regrow;

We may be growing slowly, yes, but surely we will grow.
