"Come all who are hungry" we read
out of the haggadah on Passover eve.
"Come all who are hungry" we say,
while so many stave someplace else.
"Come all who are hungry" we call
as we throw away our leftovers.
"Come all who are hungry" we utter,
but another child goes to bed famished.
"Come all who are hungry" we call,
and some family can't put food on the table.
"Come all who are hungry" we declare
and celebrate our freedom and liberty.
"Once we were slaves in Egypt",
we tell the story of our redemption.
But there is no redemption
for the poor woman without food to eat.
There is no saviour for the dying soul,
and there is no freedom for so many.
