The Cave
by Otaku Sage of Llamas
---
No one dared to go into the cave of Hollow’s Hill. Some said that a frightening monster hid within its depths. Others said that the cave housed perpetrators of murder and rape.
All of the villagers of Hollow’s Grove told their children of these stories, urging them to never go near such a dark place, even if their very lives depended upon it.
One day, a visitor came to the village. She was young and probably still in college at that. The villagers discovered while they talked with her that she was a traveler of the world as well as a seeker of knowledge.
The outsider told stories to the children of her journeys through the various jungles of Africa and her descent into the coldest regions of Russia. The children were captivated by her adventures and they informed the visitor of Hollow’s Hill.
Some of the older boys jokingly dared her to venture into the dark depths of the cave of Hollow’s Hill. They were shocked to find that the outsider accepted the challenge with a serious countenance, telling them that she meant business.
So the visitor rose from her seat to fulfill her challenge as the children, hurriedly, tried to change her mind. The children ceased their attempts when they reached the foot of Hollow’s Hill.
Looking up, the outsider saw that the cave laid in the middle of the way to the top of the hill. And without fear, she started to walk towards the entrance of the cave.
Frightened, the children scattered and fled to seek out their parents. However, the outsider remained unfazed.
By time the outsider reached the entrance, the children had returned to the foot of Hollow’s Hill with their parents in tow.
Now looking down, the outsider found a tree branch lying on the ground and she picked it up to light it with a match that she retrieved from her pocket.
Gasps were heard as she entered the cave. The outsider narrowed her eyes as she explored to search for any monsters or criminals.
But as she reached the back of the cave, the outsider found none of that. All there was in the cave were scattered tree branches, rocks, and old decayed bodies of small animals suggesting that the cave was once shelter for a bigger animal.
Satisfied by her exploration, the outsider turned around and headed back to the entrance of the cave. The villagers were shocked to see that the outsider emerged from the depths of the cave alive and well.
The outsider laughed at the villagers’ expressions and said, “You are all fools! Nothing inhabitants the cave but your own fears! You’ve been blinded by your fear of that of what is unknown to you that your mind has created illusions in place of reality!”
While the children remained confused, their parents became enraged at the outsider’s words and charged at her.
However, the outsider only laughed more at the villagers’ ignorance and foolish attempts as she disappeared into the air as if everything that happened was but an illusion itself.
The parents stopped dead in their tracks and frantically looked around themselves to try to find the outsider. But she was no longer there for them to find.
After finally recovering from their shock, the parents rounded up their children and went back home.
Nothing was said about the cave of Hollow’s Hill after that.

The End
---
I am disappointed with the ending a bit so I might at a later date decided to revise it and add more to it. But for now, I am satisfied with what I have. Reviews would be greatly appreciated.
