Chameleon

There was a time I realized
Who I was
But your rejection made me cold
I longed night and day for your acceptance
I changed myself
To fit your mold

I lost myself
And became like you
I lost myself
And became a shell
My individuality dwindled for integration
I lost myself
To join your hell

But now I won't be your chameleon any more
Won't change my skin to suit your needs
Won't let you
Rip my heart out
Won't let you
Make me bleed

I am who I am
With or without your self-gratifying praise
I don't need
Your self-absorbent bullshit
I don't want
Your salvific haze

I don't need
Your sanctifying grace
I don't want
Your mint stamped paradise
Nor do I want to have your face or your smile
As through your teeth you utter your lies

So goodbye
To your deceitful acceptance
Because I know
Where I belong
I know
How to love myself
I don't need you
In my song
