Growing Pains

Brick by brick and stone by stone
Steel frames, cables, and wire
Stretching to reach Heaven's throne
The towers rise ever higher

We seek to move across the sea
The bridges span ever longer
We seek to become the Powers that Be
Our firepower grows ever stronger

We've spread ourselves far too thin
We haven't left any room to bend
We forget to think about how to begin
Because we focus too much on the end

Yet that which we fail to ponder
Is where will we be when it all crashes down?
What happens when way up yonder
Meets with us little folk here on the ground?

So I say stop building those towers
Stop turning those wheels, quarks, and gears
Take some time to enjoy the flowers
Because all you need's always been right here
