It's been a very very long time since I've decided to post anything original here...but since I've discovered a few poems I had to write for my Creative Writing class, I decided to put the best of them here. I know it's probably not that good (I don't have much of a taste for poetry)...but freestyle is all I'm decent with.
I’m sorry if my writing is hard to read,
But the pen is nearly out of ink.
No, don’t exclaim to the skies—
Let me speak just this once.
I remember a day that was cold
And the world seemed to be crying.
Sheets of ice fell to the ground—
Covering up my addition.
You found me and spoke
These very words:
“I’ll never let you go.”
I believed you, I really did.
Remember those dark shadows like
Little ravens flocking to roost,
Among the faint wrinkles of my eyes?
I remember every morning
We would wake—
Side by side,
You and me.
And your whisper would touch my heart:
“I’ll never let you go.”
Sorry about the shaky lines…
My hand is wobbling—
I’ll try to steady it.
I owe you that much.
You know when you smiled
I felt the rain wash away
And the sun’s rays danced.
When you held me in your arms—
Nothing else mattered.
I’d sleep to a song of starlight and water,
And you’d brush my ear with breath:
“I’ll never let you go.”
But your hugs and kisses and promises;
They never quite made up for my tears,
Nor did they take away the lonely nights, When you weren’t there.
You’re surprised aren’t you?
I knew where you were on those days—
Because the world wept again,
And the moon along with her.
Nothing would make up for the
“How-could-you’s?”
And still you would lie to me:
“I’ll never let you go.”
We’re just like a story.
We’re the people no one notices;
The ones who fight against the current to Hold on
But in the end one of us has to let go.
The world cries again, but I’ve listened,
And I know;
Her tears want me free.
So please don’t lie—
And let me go.
