The Commons

Loud, obnoxious kids at tables;

A societal right

Taken into habit.

This is their rebellion?

The smell of food,

The warmth of air,

Light through a wall

Of windows.

Snow outside.

No one even notices;

They don't care that it dies on the ground.

Wrappers and bottles,

Gossip and jokes.

No homework.

Chaos, they say.

But it's structured so well.

Sit in separate social groups,

Stay seated,

No running,

No yelling.

Since when was rebellion

So tame?
