Sun Child

I close my eyes and I’m running through backyards,
Wearing a dirty sundress and chasing a butterfly.
I close my eyes and I’m swimming underwater,
Wearing a pink one-piece and holding my breath.
I close my eyes and I’m swinging constantly higher,
Wearing pigtails and laughing at your funny faces.
I close my eyes and I’m watching a puppet show,
Wearing my mothers hat and sitting in the wet grass.
I close my eyes and I’m growing another year older,
Wearing a pretty face and noticing you for a boy.
I close my eyes and I’m staring you down in love,
Wearing teardrops and telling you I’m leaving here.
I open my eyes and I am gone.
