Johns

The heart plays a twisted beat

As I wait for you on your promise,

“I’ll come back for you

And take you away

And you’ll never see pain again.”

-

Twisted days turn to troubled months,

And I remain faithful to you.

-

The mind insists on troubled thoughts,

Though I know you’ll be here tomorrow;

You swore on your soul

“Don’t listen to them

When they say I’m gone forever.”

-

Troubled months turn to tattered years,

Fading eyes still on the horizon.

-

The body fails as the tattered heart

Fades more every day that you’re gone.

But today as I sleep,

You smile at me

“Take my hand and we’ll go.”

Like you said.

Kinda old poem, but I like it. The title's a little iffy, though, it has personal meaning but not really any connection to the work. If you have an idea for a better one, or anything else to say, of course, please review!
