Softly treading o'er a marble sea

Anxiety wells with the instinct to flee

Resonating in sound from my traipsing feet

That deliver me to a forbidden door

Dizzy, I try to draw a breath

Exhausted, I collapse in uncomfortable rest

Onerous pressure builds in my breast

Submerged in frigid air, empty and cold

My unseeing eyes search for the light

As I struggle inside to suppress my fright

The door swings shut and there isn't a slight

Chance for us prisoners to escape

Blurry faces surround my frame

Cursing me, as I'm to blame

A despicable, gullible, wretched dame

My apologies carry no meaning

Broken composure, panic floods my mind

The executioner knots my hands in a bind

To death, I am the first to arrive

His avid cry "encore" rings in my ears.
