In the silent mountains Gray
Is where the blank people stay.
-
Their world was black and white,
They passed through life without a fright.
-
They had no anger, they had no fears,
They had no accidents, they had no tears.
-
Their life was plain, their life was bleak,
They were simply shadows, who lived atop a mountain's peak.
-
Yet their princess nightly dreamt
Of bright reds, greens and blues
These colors beyond her reach did tempt,
Especially the ones with long names, like obsidian and chartreuse.
-
She longed for the kingdom in her dreams,
The place with gold sun,
The place with blue streams,
The place where people seemed to have so much fun.
-
One night, when just her dreams could no longer please her,
When she became annoyed with these visions that chose to tease her,
She ran in search of a portal
That could possibly take her to this place of the mortal.
-
Eventually she came upon a mirror,
Her reflection in it could not be clearer.
-
Her visage began to blur,
And her image was replaced by a man's with a faint "whur".
-
The man was the one who's father ruled her nighttime sanctuary,
The one who existed beyond the illusionary
Barrier between them.
She only need step beyond the glass,
And then she could lay in the emerald grass
With him.
-
Yet try as she might,
She could not get past it.
She let out a wail into the night,
A hole in her heart forming into a deep pit.
-
And suddenly, the prince's voice sounded through the glass,
And somehow the sound allowed her to pass.
-
At last, they were together,
In the world of rainbow light,
The princess hoped she would stay there forever,
And that the colors would never leave her sight.
-
Swiftly, the prince placed a chaste kiss upon her gray lips,
And the princess felt a shock travel through her even to her gray finger tips.
-
Just when they touched, the limbo between their worlds did crack,
Sending them both back,
Away, away, so far away from each other.
-
The princess wept, but remained hopeful,
If she could travel to her prince once, why not once more?
Yet try as she might over weeks and weeks time,
Her disposition steadily became doubtful,
Her gray eyes were constantly sore,
And she felt that the heavens were punishing her for what she felt not a crime.
-
One day, she looked into her mirror,
Not to see his world, but to see her own face.
She suffered a minute's terror,
For in her gray lip's place
Lay lips of bright red.
She now sleeps upon her gray bed,
Waiting for the day,
For which she does pray,
That she will meet her prince once more,
And he will give her a score
Of kisses to color her entire body.
