Heritage Poem

From my mother, my porcelain skin

Now sun tanned from a sunny country.

I have her eyes, and the hazelnut hair

And for that,

I’ve pieces of warm honey in me.

From my father, my unruly hair

Now straighten for management.

My father’s lips are also mine

But for the most significant feature,

My nose.

From my grandmother,

She raised me when I was a wee little girl.

She taught me life’s lessons,

At the beginning of my life.

From my aunt,

Who isn’t related to me,

Who raised me through the half of my life

Taught me how to live my life

Without forcing it on me

Gave me suggestions and advice

When she feels that I need it

Made me feel safe, while

Making me learn to be hospitable

She taught me my multiplication,

My division, and how to write my ABC’s

She taught me many things

She enforced me to do well in school.

She made realize from my wrong and right’s

For that,

She influenced my life in so many ways.

She did all this with no price or order.

She was my babysitter with a hint of a guardian angel.
