The Immaculate Dream

Sunlight pours into her room to greet her for the day

She winces at the unwelcome light and rolls over to turn away

Sleep is the only escape that frees her from reality

Contemplating fate and the way that things should be

Memories are beautiful and terribly bittersweet

Build yourself a fortress and don’t let them see you weep

Create inside your mind a beauty you deserve

You, walking through life scarred and shy - a creature on reserve

She lays her head upon her pillow at the dusk of night

Drifting off into a world where angels wings take flight

There are people smiling at her with laughter, warmth and love

Telling her to not despair - she is a delicate dove

And then the smiles fade away and screams ring in her ears

The black gates swing open and unleash monsters of her greatest fears

Their razor claws tear at her heart and blood trickles across her skin

She will not let demons consume the light that lies within

So when the nightmare breaks into daylight she reflects on her dream

Drifting through days and walking through places where nothing is as it seems

Crushed inside that someone would giver her a light which monsters want to destroy

She becomes bitter, holding resentment and distrust for what angels employ

In the dead of night she cries her frustration and she asks, Why?

Why do some say I hold a treasure inside, when others say it’s just a lie?

They tell me that I am delusional, and they say that I am unfit

They whisper that I am worthless and should be left to rot in a pit

How could someone be so mean to say I’m a delicate dove?

When this is all your fault that I am here without any love

You showed me happiness in my dream and then you took it away

And then the monsters claimed me, and I became your prey

Crumpling into a helpless ball, she sobs, looking for answers in the sky

Until she can not shed a tear, for there are no tears left to cry

And when her sobs drift off into sleep, arms wrap around her to comply

A divine voice that whispers into her ear, Don’t despair, I have your reply…

You listen to the world around you tell you your sense of worth

When I have been here, watching over you from afar, ever since your birth

Jealous demons would rather insult than let their envious tongues confess

That what you have inside of you they can’t overcome, it’s the love that you possess

So don’t deny you are something beautiful and worth having a life

Someone is there to love you through your tears and through your strife

So when you stumble and lose your way, just look at me above

And remember that it was I who told you first, you are my delicate dove

But how can that be? The girl falters through her teary eyes

When I am alone in this cruel and empty world to look for love from the sky?

I would rather have something that I can touch to know that love is real,

Than dream up my reality without the earthly body I long to reach out and feel

Shaking his head he smiles and gently reaches out to stroke her hair

All you have to do is believe and you will find that I will be there

And then the light fades away and everything turns white

Where she wakes up the next morning, feeling empty inside

Dreams can sometimes show us only what we want to see

Some even lose sight of the way they want things to be

They never fully recover inside just who they truly were

Their future is the same as their past, every day is a mind numbing blur

Every corner that she rounds she looks for him there,

In every face, in every man, and even over her shoulder

And when she does not see a pair of eyes that holds love for her, she begins to despair

That it was all in her head, and that his Eden he promised was never really there

And so the rest of her life became a blur, and she didn’t remember when it had start

Walking through life feeling empty inside, missing half her heart

Years passed by and old age consumed her, turning her hair as white as snow

The emptiness had never left her, and she began to wonder when she had let go

She once had a glow inside that monsters tried to snatch away, and angels tried to kindle

Once a delicate maiden of light, who foolishly pricked her finger on the spindle

And when the last breath in her body threatens her to leave

She remembers the words from her dream and surrenders to believe

Out of no where came those arms to wrap around her and hold her close

Don’t worry, he said, I do not blame you for not believing, and the path that you have chose

I know your heart aches for an earthly being, but I still love you the most

And when you are gone from this world, I will be the one who is going to love your ghost

A smile breaks through bittersweet tears that this life is gone

And that she is in the place that she has always belong

With the one that truly holds the other half of her heart

With eternity to comfort them, for they will never be apart

So dry the tears you shed when you don’t know where to start

It doesn’t mean you won’t be whole if you can’t find the other half of your heart

Just hold on tightly to all that you love and never lose sight of your dreams

And remember that though the world isn’t kind, it is never what it seems
