The Legend of the Equal
Steph
Once upon a time in a very very very very very very very very very far away place called A-town there were a couple of kids that enjoyed life as much as it let them. The First character I’d like to tell you about is Steph.
Steph is a kind hearted little bitch that happens to be crazy as well. She’s really sweet but at the flick of a tiny little switch inside her head she flips out and destroys people. (Not literally but metaphorically speaking)
One day Steph was in school and met this kid Joe. Joe was a weird little mother fucker. He dressed like a preppy, he acted like he was the shit, but at the same time he was ok. She and Joe became decently cool friends and started hanging out in the library of the school, as nerdy as it may sound.
Everyday was the same. Jus chillen in the library and doing their own thing. One day Joe looked over at Steph’s screen to ask what she was doing. She was on this website called It was a cool little website where people would post their original work and it would be protected by the website but at the same time people could still view her work.
Joe was intrigued by this and decided that he as well would start writing. He used to write as well. They began competition to see who would write the better piece. They actually had a good story going on, on both sides. Steph wrote a story based on herself and her trials in life while joe wrote more of a fiction piece with himself as the base character doing stupid stuff and going on wild adventures.
Steph always thought she was the better writer which in all actuality may have been true. It was a matter of a opinion and preference of writing style I guess. Steph hung out with joe once or twice at a party and playing pool and stuff but they didn’t chill too often which was actually odd because they didn’t live too far from each other and they worked literally right across the street from each other.
Steph thought Joe was almost too much of a loser. He went to work all the time on time, he did his work in school and attended regularly. The only reason she was in school now was because she went to court and they told her that they’d kill her if she missed another unexcused day. She especially thought hew was a loser because he was prude to trying new drugs. She’s done basically everything but crack and dope and the fact that he wouldn’t pissed her off and made him less appealing.
Steph was the laid back one of the group. She went with the flow of things as they suited her and as they appealed to her schedule. Getting up in the morning for school was basically the only difficulty in her day as far as she was concerned. Then there was dealing with Joe. She was either laughing at him, or doing her best to ignore the next thing that came out of his mouth. He had a dry humor which if you did not know him would most definitely offend you. If you did know him there was still a pretty decent chance that he would still offend you. One moment he would compliment Steph on how she looked and then the next thing would be a “That’s what she said” joke. He was a dork without an angle. For some reason or another Steph still found a reason to say hi to him everyday and put up with his shit.
Joe had previously paid for a few things for Steph and she wanted to get back at him for helping. He didn’t do anything huge, but things that counted like pulling the rest of the money when she was short for pool and buying her lunch when she didn’t have any money on her. They sat down at their designated computers as they did most days and Steph whipped out a clip of money gangster style. It looked like a few hundred but it was just two twenties with a few ones following behind. She looked up at him and said “Let’s go to lunch. It’s on me.” Joe being the dumbass that he was, was confused. The school they went to had about 3,200 students attending or doing other things so the lunches were separated into 3 periods so that everyone had the chance to eat. Steph and Joe ate 3rd lunch and it was first lunch so he figured she just wanted to go to an earlier lunch. After a few times of running it by him he realized that she meant leave for lunch outside of school. All that happened after that was a hell yes and a few quick moves to give security the slip and walk out the side door down to a dinner about three or four blocks away.
Steph walked through the door to the restaurant as Joe exclaimed ladies first. Steph grabbed the second door in the lobby mocking him saying the same thing right back at him. Joe grabbed the door and pushed her along in front of him. They were seated and now entering the decision process.
Joe got some quarters on the way back from the bathroom so they could hit up the jukebox. They mixed the old with the new and threw in a twist that would get you in the groove. Almost sitting down he Steph watched him do a double take at the girls sitting behind them. She obviously grew very jealous that he was not staring at her. She was a hottie, so why would he not stare at her. Then she realized that he stopped because a couple of their friends Laura and Ashley showed up apparently a few moments after they did. She put her jealousy back down into her never ending black hole of a heart and invited them over to join them for lunch.
The music was a good time and the food kicked ass as well. They all sat around thinking about the summer and the moments that were yet to come. Steph sat with silence surrounding her as she realized Joe was a senior and by that time next year she would be to but lonelier without her friend to go on the computer with and bullshit. It didn’t seem like much to her at the time but it was in her subconscious of how much she would miss him.
