Twas only the Start

‘Twas the night before the worst day ever

When a student with a poem had thought, “Whatever.”

She skipped that one and went to the next,

To look for something far less complex.

She thought about all those students in their bed

Their thoughts filled with A’s, swimming in their heads.

But then her thoughts filled with dread,

For she thought about what her teacher had said.

“An F or an A equals the effort you put in.”

She wanted an A, so she began to begin.

But soon found that she had something else to dread,

Nothing to talk about equals nothing to be read.

She traveled her mind for something to write about

She thought long and hard, she wanted to scream and shout

She grew tired and weary, unable to think

It felt like her mind was missing a link

She soon became sleepy and fought to be awake,

She wished someone were there, to give her a little shake.

‘Twas was only the start of the worst day ever,

‘Twas 12 when she woke with her arms and legs tethered
