Sometimes I Wonder
I see him walking down the street, his head in a dream, his heart in a steady beat.
So boyish, yet I can see the man within. And sometimes I wonder.
Large, strong hands that help and wave
Growing more burdened with each passing day
Always so mature, willing to do anything for you.
But sometimes I wonder.
Chocolate eyes smiling down at me
A full-lipped grin laughing along
A strong arm to catch me when I fall
Yet sometimes I wonder.
Driving through the gentle snow, head in a fog
Already planning for the day
Classes here, classes there, going everywhere, but home in time to eat and sleep deep.
Sometimes I wonder.
Praying silently, ashamed about mistakes, perfectionist within
Handsome, strong, my best friend
Yet critical, outspoken, passionate, faithful
And sometimes I wonder.
What lies behind that well-chiseled face?
What secrets do the eyes unfold
If I were to bare myself, would he understand?
Is he the one to make a half a whole?
Silly young girl, wondering such things
You should not awaken love before it so desires.
So I watch from afar, praying, praying
But sometimes I wonder.
